How do you like the new Metallica album St. Anger??

I was just curious to see how the Jemsiters like the new Metallica album. I was quite shocked to see that there is NO classic Hammett stuff on the thing!! Not one damn solo on the whole album. That was a bit disappointing.....

Well, I think Hammett sucks as it is, however, it's often James' playing that will make me decide on an album, along with the drummin... The drums on St. Anger were terrible, but the guitar was alright. Therefore, the album was ok. Nothing great. "Master of Puppets", and "...And Justice for all".... Now THOSE were great albums.

I agree, those 2 are easily my favorite Metallica CD's. Hard to compete with that pair

Stange how they've gone from the original thrashers to hard rock/ country then (now) to a nu-metal style thing. I love Metallica but unfortunatly this album is the biggest load of crap i've heard in a long time. I know bands have to move on and can't stay in the same genre and please every one all the time but I think there comes a point when they're takeing the p!ss. It's not a bad mix that botheres me, it's the style of the songs that does.

Proper Metallica albums:
Kill em all
Ride The Lightening
Master Of Puppets
Justice For All
Black
S&M

OKish Albums:
Load
Reload
Garage days

Should be kept well away from:
St. Anger

And while i'm having a rant and rave i'll have a go at the new bass player. OK so he's an alright player but seriously what is with the whole on stage thing, bass so low it almost touches the floor, then waddling about about like a penguin. Oh yeah and get your hair sorted mate. Sorry i'm a hard core Cliff fan.
Well just my opinion, it's a free country, well it is where I am anyway

An OK album but I absolutelly HATE the production.
Oh and I'd rather listen to any other Metallica album than this one.
That pretty much sums it up.

I tried listening to some of it yesterday at a store. It sucks, big time. It didn't sound pissed off or inspiring at all.

I hope that when I'm older and out of good ideas, I'll have the respect for my fan base to quit while I'm ahead... (NOTE: for purposes of this post, my fan base has been digitally simulated, and bears no intentional resemblance to an actual fan base).

I could have taken a dump with a microphone in the stool and come up with better tracks than this disc. I used to really like Metallica. Dunno what happened to 'em, but it wasn't anything good, obviously.

I'd agree that the production is something to be desired. I have heard better through local garage studios.

There are some great ideas on the album but I just can't get past the Bob Rock production this time around. Did he sell most of his studio equipment?

I do agree with you on the not so great production. Another concern is, what the hell is up with Lars' drums?? He's turning his snare off on many of the songs and it honestly sounds like crap. His drumset sounds like bunk on nearly the entire album. Not to mention, many of the songs have very muddy guitar tone...

I used to be a masive Metallica fan, and as im pretty sure everyone will agree, the old skool 'Tallica was the best. Ride The..., Master Of... etc. Amazing songs, amazing riffs, all round great albums.

Stanger now sounds like nu-metal ****e, most of the songs have simila rythms, similar riffs, and its as if they couldnt be arsed to actually write decent matterial.

I've been quite dissapointd so far and listened a good many times. I quite like it but it is by far the worst album by the band IMO. Still better than most other bands around at the moment but it really needs those epic songs and the ballades. Oh and a solo or two would be nice

Trying to toss in some heaviness and raw production along with the trendy "I've got serious property taxes and alimony cutting into my budget" riffs.

I never thought I'd hear whiny, emo vocals from Metallica, but there they are. I wish this band would break up and never record again. Then, maybe I could eventually discover some nostalgia and listen to their old stuff without thinking about where it eventually ends up.

Plus, I'm sick of looking at Lars' disgusting face. He thinks he is so cool, but the reality is he's an idiot.

My .02... Looking up at this embarassing rant, I can't believe that they used to be my favorite band. Bleah.

Justice...not one ****ing metallica album can compare to that heavy bad ass album. and if Cliff Burton was in metallica today, i dont think they wouldve gone this direction
