Re: How do you rate your guitar playing ???

I think i play well enough to get the point across, but my biggest problem is inconsistency- some days i really like what i'm playing; others, i just can't seem to get it together.
But one of the things i love about playing is that there is always something new to learn, or practice, or to try and improve upon.
peace

Consistency is all about breaking down barriers during practice time. I have my hot and cold days but they're starting to be less drastic. I think you're as good as you let yourself get. I bust my ass on a daily basis and plan to make something of my playing. So I guess it's all about the time you're willing to log and your confidence level

I suck! I'm in a major playing slump right now and I feel like I haven't learned anything new in months.

I play good, considering I've only been playing for 5 months. I push myself everday, and figure out new licks and runs. (mostly from Guitar World!)

lol....20 years here...and I still don't think I'm good Maybe I'm too hard on myself, but it's a mental thing for me. Back when I started I used to think I was REAL good, lol....but looking back, I was terrible. I think if you ever get to the point where you think you are good (or should I say GREAT), then that is when you stop progressing as a player..but that's just me

ain't that true. Kinda like loosing the eye of the tiger. You have to WANT to be better, or there is nowhere to go but down.

as for my playing, I have moments of happiness with my playing, but those moments are sprinkled over years of frustration LOL and usual don't come around for months at a time. And those moments are brief at best (like 10 minutes a piece)

Couldn't agree more. You defenitely have to take the rough with the smooth, whoever you are, and whatever your talents. But thats all part of it isn't it. Its all about that certain lick that you just can't nail.....and then one morning after weeks or months of trying it, you can do it.

And when that happens, it feels so good. And if you get moments like that, then all the frustration is worth it I say.

I have always tried to look at playing guitar like this = its not particularly about becomming a "good player" as such, but more about having fun and enjoying it. And I have usually found that if I treat it like that, the "getting better" part tends to follow suit. And thats a bonus.

I am only 19, so I still have years and years and years left to play and practise. But I will always try and look at it in that way. And to be honest, I cant wait to have those 40+ years in front of me for playing!

That's the best part of playing for me at least when you nail a riff or get a technique right, pure joy .
