Re: How many guitars and why?
I currently have
RG550EX - for the super wizard neck
RG8527z - because I wanted a seven string and a Jcustom at the same time
Yamaha APX700- a steel string acoustic with a thin neck with low action
Yamaha A500 - first guitar ever - nylon string classical
will be saving up for (Gas wish list in order)
S8570 - Because I want an S with a super wizard neck and a Jcustom at the same time
- I'll also take it to a luthier to strip the top and put a custom PRS style flame top on it.
RGD2527 - for extended range baritone scale - plus I need a guitar tuned down a step. Would be fitted with EB bottom heavy light tops.
Martin 12 String - need a 12 string
Suhr Guthrie Govan Classic
Caparison 28fret horus
Ken Lawrence James Heftield Explorer
PRS 24 fret neck through custom guitar
Les Paul custom

Re: How many guitars and why?
Just a few days ago I added a new axe
A custom-made Jaden Rose Purple heart with True temperament frets :-) (my second one with true temperament frets- my first is my Orange multicolor by Herc Fede)
this counts up to 50+ guitars in my arsenal. 4 are on hold for a swirl-crazy friend of mine, thus ending around 50 (I think I should set this number as my upper limit :-p )
Most of them have a different sound, feel and whenever I hit the studio, each track has different unique sounds from different guitars, which subconsiously, inspire (and influence) my playing approach :-)
But my main live guitars are still my PMC player, my Jason Backer, my Orange multicolor, my Jem 20th (but on a full 3,5 hours set, this one gives me a pain in the back - ouch)
and for sure I'll explore the limits of my newest babe - Purple Heart <3

Re: How many guitars and why?
AFS75T - Used in my setlist for 'europa' by santana, because of the neck PU tone and awesome feedback that hollows get! Other times it can be my drop tuning (D, C) guitar, or when I want a chunkier (Bridge PU) tone, it adds a lot of depth when overdubbing heavy rhythms with other (solid) guitars.
RX60 - HSS and maple, so probably the most versatile of the bunch. The (strat style) bridge stays in tune after abuse miraculously! Has a 'satch-y' vibe to it, I may even throw in a FRED one of these days. HSS so it has all those nice cleans and 'in between' tones that just pop, and a lot of hendrix, tender surrender etc.
(coming very very soon) RG520. quilt top and mahogany. Will be my LP and shred guitar, especially with the original edge, since it has the mahog body i'm kinda 'killing two birds with one stone'. its and RG, so it speaks for itself
'73 takamine dreadnought copy - pretty self explanatory.
early 60s (?) Kay archtop. kinda bad guitar lol, but great for slide, has the old kluson tuners and trapeze bridge and stuff.

Re: How many guitars and why?
96' Gibson Les Paul Studio - Saphire with cream P90s
94' Gibson Les Paul Std - Ebony and beastly
83' Squier Japanese Vintage 57' - Olymic white, with gold scratchplate
09' USA vintage reisssue strat - 3 colour sunbusrt...blues machine
00's 50's cassic strat - Fiesta red
Ibanez S470 - Blueish (?) Indo made. Got it in Vegas
Ibanez RG550 MXX - DY and set up to perfection (not by me)
Ibanez EGen8 - Probably muy favourite of all my guitars
88' Jem FP - Only had it a couple of weeks, so still getting to know it
Old Washburn EA20 electr - Wicked sounding and playing guitar
Old spanish guitar that lives on the stairs and gets used for stumming and cavatina
Why? Well, I guess I'm just addicted. I'm not particuarly good either, but it's pretty much my only vice

Re: How many guitars and why?
I was close to 60 but I'm pairing that down to the mid 40s right now and may even go lower because there are about 4 that I really want. After that I should be good until the end.....
of the year.

Re: How many guitars and why?
Down to six.
RG550MXXRFR - Front routed, original wizard neck dimensions, maple board, it's road flare red! EVH pickup in the bridge with stock V1 and S1 pickups.
RG1570MRR - Rear route, direct-mounted pickups, Prestige neck dimensions, Tone Zone - Pro Trak 2 - Breed pickups.
RG570GN - My oldest and probably most comfortable RG. Tone Zone - HS3 - PAF Pro pickups. Super wizard neck! rear routed with ring mounted pickups.
RG3EXQM1 - Best value of all my guitars. Fixed bridge (replaced original with Gotoh) with Wizard II. Tone Zone - PAF Pro combo.
RG7321 - All stock. Everyone should have a 7-string.
DT200 - Destroyer goodness! Big mahogany body w Tune-o-matic style fixed bridge. Super Distortion bridge with Humbucker From Hell pickup in the neck. 24 3/4" scale neck.
As I tell my wife... all these guitars sound and play a little different.

I go for playability and comfort first, sound second, look third.

EVH EBMM in Trans Blue - My Dream Guitar
Axis - Was just real comfy
Taylor Acoustic - My god, thouse things play and sound nice

Re: How many guitars and why?
I have 4 Electrics, 1 Bass, 1 Acoustic. All guitars in standard tuning except Bass sometimes tuned down to Eb. My Fender American Strat has HSS Dimarzio pickups, I use this guitar for Funk, Jazz, Gospel, Blues, Christian Rock. My Gibson LP is used for those same styles. I have a SX Tele that I changed out the pickups with GFS Hard Vintage set and a Mighty Mite Fender licensed neck. Finally but not least, I picked up a RG4EXFM1 in Gray that's completely stock. I wanted a guitar with a Floyd Rose and I came across a great deal on this RG4EXFM1. It appears to be very versatile, like my other guitars. I have to admit that dealing with tuning that Floyd is no joke. My Bass is a 6-string Pavel Aryel. My acoustic is a guitar I built in a guitar building class.

Re: How many guitars and why?
Have been thinning the herd and down to 5 right now... Decided I just don't need that many and a real pity to see them sit in the case unplayed.
1. ESP Kamikaze 1 in standard tuning with Dimarzio Evos
2. Stock Washburn N4 swamp ash in Eb tuning
3. Ibanez S770 - got this in a trade and its working out really well. Was skeptical coz it was made in Indonesia. PUs probably due for an upgrade soon.
4. Mex Fender Ritchie Sambora with TBX installed. One of the most comfortable strats I own... sold the rest and kept the mex.
5. Gibson BFG in translucent amber - nice guitar but just not me so this would probably go.
Hoping to add a hardtail JS and also a JS2400 to the herd though.

Re: How many guitars and why?
Ibanez S5470 Prestige - Main guitar.
Ibanez SA120(Converted to hard tail) - Beater...Looking to get rid of.
Ibanez RG220B - Bought on impulse...Looking to sell soon.
**Projects**
Jackson Kelly KE3 Project - Found a good deal, had to jump on it.
Custom RG project - Got a cheap home made RG body and have extra Ibanez parts.
Custom Randy Rhoads style V with Ibanez parts - I love Ibanez, and the RR-esque shape. I say "esque" because I cut the body out a little different...I will post pics when It's done.
Why so many projects? Because I LOVE building and customizing stuff.
