Re: How many hours a day?

when i first started 8 hours a i just play when i feel like it maybe 1-2 hours a day, just play for my own enjoyment so no need to hammer mate noticed something really strange about the way i pick.for 14 years ive been picking 2 down strokes then on the case now to sort it,its feels very uncomfortable the whole of my arm moves instead of playing through the wrist.ive been playing long enough to fix the problem.practice makes perfect

Re: How many hours a day?

Ahhh, I knew I forgot one

I hate this now. I'm in class for part of the day and since Ive needed time off from work for other things its forcing me to work all the other days around it so I now play for maybe 2 hours a day

Re: How many hours a day?

i use to practice then i got to a level of proficiency that i liked so i stopped practicing and just kept jamming and sadly i am not very good at practicing anymore so it is really hard for me to learn new things, when i write things for myself or for friends people always say "sounds like jake wrote that" and they are almost always right.

Re: How many hours a day?

I used to "practice" quite a bit, but I just can't seem to find the time anymore. I'm happy if I play the guitar for 30 min a week.

Re: How many hours a day?

i barely practice, maybe half hour a day to an hour. and even then its just messing about like playing my favourite solos or riffs. however it comes naturally to me. for example i could play stairway all the way through even the solo 3 months after i started playing. dont make playing a chaw, thats when you start to hate it and give it up all together.

Re: How many hours a day?

I have two small boys and if I get a chance to play every other day I'ld be lucky, but when I do it's 2 to 3 hours. Just long enough to tare up my fingers. ;-D

Re: How many hours a day?

i really believe that a person will only do around max 3 hours a day, no more then that even if that person believes that he/she dose more then that. 2 years ago i felt like i was doing 5 hours of playing a day. but one day i thought that i should time how much i play and it was around 2 to 3 hours i think it's because i have alot of breaks when i'm playing. for anyone who thinks dose more then 3 hours i think you should really time yourself and you will know that you'll only do max 3 hours not more then that.

Re: How many hours a day?

You were pausing for 2 hours when you were practicing for 5? That's crazy! I tend to go for 6-8 when I practice but I don't get to do it everyday what with working and all. But fortunately I work teaching guitar so I'm not getting rusty.

Re: How many hours a day?

Between school and work I don't have much time to practice. The amount of time i practice per week can vary greatly depending on the week. I wish i had started playing guitar when i was in high school and didn't have a job. Then i would have had tons of time.

Maybe this is why i suck so bad

Re: How many hours a day?

I notice during my developing years, I practise all the time but when you get to a certain level, you practise like less or none at all, just like watching a kung fu movies those sifu(master) never practise at all but his students were practising like mad dog. Try watching drunken master of jackie chan

That's not the whole point, I feel the lesser I play the better I am and more ideas.

Re: How many hours a day?

With work, marriage, kids and family, its hard to get any playing in at all. The most productive time for me is when everyone is in bed.....but thats a problem too because i startwork at if im willing to have 3hrs sleep, ill go for it.

Re: How many hours a day?

I don't like to call it practice, it makes it seem like work. I picked up the guitar by my own means and I learned by myself for around a yearbefore taking lessons, I didn't think of it as learning I just played, and so I have always been in the habit of playing about 5-6 hours a day, even with work.
