Re: How many hours a day?

I practice all that i can, sometimes it's not really that tedious, it could just be me sitting on the couch alternate picking for 20 minutes straight, or playing through all the pent. boxes over and over.... Kind of like not doing heavy lifting every practice, but actually doing repetitions with smaller weights many many times.

Usually it's 2 days a week drop tuned writing for my band, a day jamming with a looper, a theory (serious day, My lesson day, a day where i go through tab books and learn a new song, and then a noodling day.

I don't stick to my schedule like a zealot but it works for me, keeps me wanting to play and learn more, and i don't get any worse by doing it.

ohhhh yea.... that question you asked?, 2-3 hours a day.

Re: How many hours a day?

I practice when I can, but school work takes priority, so yeah, if i'm lucky maybe an hour a day, but usually about 30 minutes before I go to bed, no matter what time it is haha

Re: How many hours a day?

it used to be 8-10 a day on weekends and 4-5 a day M-F. nothing else mattered. that ended about 10 years ago and there isn't a day that goes by where i'm bummed out by that. almost got signed a couple of times but it fell through, back in the day....THANKS SINGERS!!!

after getting a home, getting married, and with my son, not to mention the photo/audio/video biz i have on the side, there is no time. the day job takes 13 hours a day from me. i have a 5 hour commute roughly, roundtrip. my son is priority 1 when i get home. when he goes to bed the remaining 2 hours i have is put towards editing in the studio. there isn't time for guitar, but i came to terms with it long ago. when things clear up i might be looking at 30 mins. a day.

Re: How many hours a day?

Today it's about two hours a day, sometimes less, sometimes more.

More is more in this case

It's harder to find time to practise with three kids, the wife and two jobs, one is teaching guitar so that helps but it's not the same as a good practise session.

Re: How many hours a day?

It really varies for me. Sometimes I might spend up to 2 or 3 or more hours a day practicing, others I will spend less than 20 just for warm ups/ noodling to keep my fingers in shape. I'm not exactly sure where the line between practicing and noodling is though, so I dunno. If I had to average it out it would probably be 1 hour a day.

Re: How many hours a day?

If you practice too much, the freshness in your playing came become dull. Having said that, I play at least 8 hours a day when I'm home or more if I'm not working. My best practice advise is, if you have something you know you need to work on, do it frequently in moderation and then move on to something else. This way it can still be fresh. And always try to put the guitar down on a high note, when you know your almost there but not quite, it gives you anticipation to pick it up again.

Re: How many hours a day?

I probably play about 10 hours a week on average. I don't have a practice schedule anymore, I just squeeze it in where I can.

One thing I do find is when I "hit the wall" practicing new techniques, and seem to be making little progress, I take a day or two off, then, when I pick the guitar up again it feels fresh and "the wall" seems to be gone so I can progress some more.

Rock on!

Re: How many hours a day?

Honestly, I wish I had more time in a day to play! There are so many things going on between work, keeping fit, running errands and sleep that it seems there is minimal time to do all of the fun stuff i'd like to do. If only I could live a sleepless (or workless) life. Damn the man!

Re: How many hours a day?

It's hockey playoffs so I get an hour or two every other night...
Under normal circumstances, I play 2-3 hours a day but only 1 or that is real "practice"

Re: How many hours a day?

I went from playing 6 hours or more a day to 2 hours a week... I know, I suck.
