How old were you when you first learned how to play the guitar?
Im almost 16 and i've been
playing guitar
for about 4 months im self taught (my uncle taught me a few basics) and i will be getting tuition when holidays are over. I just wanted to know how old you guys and girls were when you first picked up a guitar and learnt how to play it.

I was 8yrs old when I started, so that means I've been playing for 23yrs now. Wow, I didn't think it was that long until now.

Re: How old were you when you first learned how to play the guitar?
not really
...got into the guitar when a mate at school introduced me to Poison, Cinderella and DLR. I was 17 but never took formal guitar lessons till I was 20.

I learned my first "song" at about 10. I didn't get serious and and take lessons until I was 13.

Re: How old were you when you first learned how to play the guitar?
I've been playing with guitars since I was a baby. I knew a few chords at the age or 4 or 5. I started to play more seriously around the age of 12.

Re: How old were you when you first learned how to play the guitar?
I'm still learning but I first picked it up around age 13. I had a POS acoustic with strings a mile high. I learned "Silent Night" on one string then I pulled a "Townsend" on that poor guitar down in the concrete basement of my apartment building. I was 16 when I aquired a solid-state 30W Marshall combo and a Squier Bullet (baby Strat). That's when I really started getting into it. I'm 38 and feel like I'm starting from scratch again because I'm tackling some light theory and learning a bunch of scales - things I wished I'd paid attention to 20 years ago! Oh well, it's still fun!

Re: How old were you when you first learned how to play the guitar?
I started to learn when I was 6. I was so mesmerized by my uncle everytime he would play his guitar. I've been obsessed with the instrument since.

Always learning. When I stop learning is when I probably stop playing.

Re: How old were you when you first learned how to play the guitar?
When I was four my dad made me a minature strat from stewmac, I cant say that I really played then though. I probably really started playing when I was 12. So probably 3 years of playing and 8 years of dreaming
