Is Slash over-rated?

Don't get me wrong, I've always loved the guy, but I looked back on some of his vids recently and I've got to say I'm less than impressed on the whole. (And yes, I know Slash is probably crying in his top-hat right now because some guy on the internet doesn't like him as much as he used to... I'm sure it's nothing a ciggy and a line of coke won't fix though eh?)

I still love his studio work. Maybe my tastes have changed? I don't know. His legendary status seems less about his playing nowadays... to me at least.

He would be alot better if he swirled that guitar and put a vine inlay in it.

Love the guys playing, but that whole "sun glasses and top hat" thing has gotten old.

I love it...
I dont believe the whole "image" thing for a second but I love to see a good entertainer and showman, everyone has off-days on the guitar and I guess when you play for a living those off-days come round more frequently..

I think just because of the appetite for destruction album the guy deserves legendary status..

That pentatonic stuff has been done to death so many times. I can't hear it anymore.

Sure, he's an okay guitarist, but i never liked Slash's playing.

Way way overrated for me!!

Good guitarist for sure, but nothing special. Just a good band guitarist that got blown out of proportion due to the hype around the band he was in!!!

I remember wanting to see Slash's Snakepit at Donington in '95 out of curiosity and i was really open minded and looking forward to it!! I think by the start of the second song i'd decided it was a good time to go to the beer tent

"overrated" and "underrated" are really stupid terms in general. Slash certainly didnt do anything extremely new for guitar playing but he had a great sense of melody and wrote some of the most memorable melodies and songs in the history of rock.

And of course hes most known because of the band he was in...him and axl made that band what it was.

he's not as over-rated as Hamett. Atleast Slash can still play

That too is merely opinion!!!

Just because somethings overplayed so well known doesn't make it good for everyone

Different roles though! Slash was the main focal point guitar-wise in g'n'r, where-as Kirk was just the guy they got to do some solo's

Ahh so what, that is just his look. And I think it is cool that he didn't change because long hair was no longer cool. He likes his top hat, I think it is pretty cool. He exudes rock-n-roll!
