Jem or JPM?

I choose the JPM. I own a JPM P3 and have owned a jem7v and the jpm just blows away the jem hands down. I actually traded in my jem for the used jpm. I'm not sure who broke it off with who but its a shame that ibanez stopped making that guitar after a very short lifespan of 5 years. Its probably one of the best built, most versitile, and best playing guitars to come out in the last 20 years. I would have to assume petrucci broke it off because if Ibanez still keeps paul gilbert around, they'll keep anybody.

JEM for sure, I love that middle pickup for some reason, and I just love how they look. JPMs are nice too, but I just love the JEM. Tho, I'd probably go for a UV

JEMs are great and all, but they're not exactly my type. They sound a bit bright and I'm not 100% comfortable with 'em. I like alot of mellower, warmer, earthy tones and that's not the JEM's strong point, really. Also the pickguard interferes a bit with my picking style (I have my pinky on the bridge pickup when I play). That being said, I love Strats, and the JEM is great as well, but its not really *my* guitar.

The JPM, however, has a warmer tone, and I'm used to the lack of pickguard and the pickup configuration (mainly because I'm a RG7 guy).

The only things I'd change for a more perfect guitar would be to: 1) add coil splitting, and 2) round off the body edges just slightly (the RG shape gets old pretty fast).

But yeah, JPM for me, I guess. The graphics are great as well!

Jem,

Anyone who thinks you can't get a warm tone from a Jem hasn't played through one much, and lotion, don't forget, line six stuff is kewl, but it's cold sounding anyway. My VWH can get a warm tone, but my SK with the PAF's can get a very warm tone.

Having said that, I would love a P1, just because they look kewl. I don't really care for the pickups in the JPM, and always thought they were tremendously expensive for the guitar, but they are very kewl.

I do prefer the 43mm nut width of the jem to the 42mm of the JPM, and I prefer the feel of the Jem neck.

If it's only tone you like better in the JPM, pickups are $55 each, oooooo big whoop on a $1200 guitar.

As for the pickguard interfering with your playing? Play one for more than 5 minutes, I'm sure you'd get used to it, Vai doesnt' seem to have a problem

Depends on the model. An alder jem over JPM, JPM over basswood jems (excepting anniversaries).
IŽd like them both, specially a JPM 90th.
