Question

Joe + lead singer

Howdy,

Would you like it if Joe Satriani formed a band with a lead singer? And then made an album with that band? Like Steve Vai did for Sex & religion?

Personally, I think I would like that very much. I would be very interesting.

Kind regards,
Myst

Re: Joe + lead singer

It depends on who the singer was and what musical direction they would take so I can't vote!

Re: Joe + lead singer

Hmmm, could be interesting. He should defenitively not quit his solo work, but he's not quite a lead singer himself is he I'm just thinking Nuno in Extreme worked really well, so Joe could do a band-project. EVH + David lee Roth kicked *ss as well

I have to agree here. While Sex and Religion had some phenomenal moments I really didn't care for Devin Townsend *in that particular context*. On the other hand, while I don't really care a whole lot for David Lee Roth, I thought the stuff they did together was out of this friggin world!

Re: Joe + lead singer

I've never been overly impressed with most of the "instrumentalists" (ie; Vai/Satch/Johnson) tracks that have vocals, Whitesnake and Roth being the only exceptions.

Vai does have some great songwriting (lyrics) ability though.

Re: Joe + lead singer

I think Vai is a great singer actually, on The Ultra Zone particularly, Johnson has some great vocal tracks too, but Satch isn't all that great but I still dig songs such as Strange, I Believe, Ride and Big Bad Moon. I think Joe is actually tolerable for me, I don't mind his singing at all but if I had to compare him w/Vai or Johnson then that's a different story.

I think Joe would be great with Chris Cornell.

Re: Joe + lead singer

Yes, that would be something new and interesting. Maybe than I wouldn't get bored a minute into most of his songs. I think a lot of his songs have the same vibe & they lack a full sound. He needs to mix it up a bit.

I think Chris Cornell kind of sounds like a frog.

Anyways, interesting responses guys. I'm going to post a link to this poll on www.satriani.com. Who knows, Joe might read it...

Re: Joe + lead singer

I would really like to see joe in a band with a lead singer. My only criteria would be that his playing remains the basis for the band notwithstanding the singer.

Re: Joe + lead singer

Hi everybody,

I just found out recently, that there was this plan to form the band 'Planet us'. But the idea to do that apparently has been postponed. Here's the band line up.

Sammy Hagar - Vocals
Joe Satriani - Guitar
Neal Schon - Guitar
Michael Anthony - Bass
Dean Castranovo - Drums

'Up in flames' was originally written for this band. Apparently, it's a song that is about environmental issues.

Re: Joe + lead singer

That band would work! And I happen to like Eric Johnson's singing as well, especially the early stuff like "Tones" and "Ah Via Musicom", and "Venus Isle". 'Trail of Tears' especially is a great song with a great vocal.
