Re: JS or JEM?

Depends on what you play. JSs are more versatile than the JEMs, which is basically for hard rock, metal, shred and the like. I'm not saying that the JEM is a one-trick pony, I just think that the JS sounds better with all styles (okay maybe not for Jazz and Country ).

I'm sure that a few people would say that a JEM isn't the way to go for versatility, but they're excellent types of guitars at what they do.

Re: JS or JEM?

depandes what u call versatile

i think JEM is MORE versatile than JS cuz of +2 frets. i mean both they've got superb trem system, deep cutaway and so on but jem has two extra frets.

and what about sound? i think more important is the comfort of playing guitar so most important thing for me is guitar body and NECK. u can allways find your sound simply changing pickups.

Re: JS or JEM?

Well, some people don't really use the 2 extra frets. And I don't think that you can find your sound JUST by replacing pups. A JS is simply a Super-Strat. Normal strat features, DC body, 22 fret neck, etc. Just with the JS features. The JEM was meant for shred in the first place, so it really excels in it.

I don't really think the JEM is a good shred guitar. I think that the string spacing is way to wide and it is meant for Vais super long fingers. I think the UV is way more geared toward shredding, at least the strings are a little closer together.

I can shred way better on my Ibaenz Artist than I can on my Jems.

Not a chance! I've played JS's and there is simply NO comparison. The JEM covers the entire gammet of music and you can play ANYTHING with one. JEM by a mile

Re: JS or JEM?

I think overall their guitars match their playing style/personality. Satch's JS is a really hot guitar with a slick look and is a good all-around guitar just like Satch is a all-around technical god on the guitar. While Steve Vai's guitar matches his playing style. Vai has that unique, original approach to his music and the JEM is unique and versatile.

So it depends what you're into more. :-p

I tried a JEM (okay its a 555, but its close) and the JS the other day and found the JS more versatile. The JS sounded better clean than the JEM (Evos perhaps?). Maybe I need to try a JEM with Paf Pros. I have a feeling that Paf Pro and Breed equipped JEMs may be more versatile than the JS after all!

Dude....come on. You played a 555. They dont feel ANYTHING like REAL Jems. If you want a fair comparision, play a REAL jem please

BTW - I like the PAF pro's in my florals better than EVO's.
