After all this time, I just noticed that Jeff Beck isn't on the list, because he surely deserves to be on it - regardless of all the Fusion musicians he's hired to give the illusion that he's more heavy-duty than he actually is.

I think it's ridiculous that Kurt Cobain is on this list and Steve Vai isn't.

Man this is a tough one.....definitely Kurt Cobain. I'm suprised he is even on this list. As for guitar players in general Satriani is still my favorite of all time cause I can relate to his stuff. Vai I like, but like others said here it's just gotten too out there for me that I just can't relate or it just turns me off. Don't get me wrong one THE greatest of all time. As for Paul Gilbert he would be my second.....I love the fact he is such a great guitarist, but he doesn't take himself too serious....oh and I wish he'd do some more vocal albums!

Jeff Beck has the best hands/feel ever, (followed by EVH). He doesn't shred, he doesn't have to. He is BY FAR the most economic guitarist of all time in fusion/rock. Satriani said he likes the old blues players because they say a lot "without much fuss".And what about D. Gilmore, he has A LOT of the JB thing going, just with a little more flare(and delay...lol),I bet you love his playing...

Your in the minority on this one... I bet Satch, Vai, EVH, SRV, Alex L., Guthrie G.etc. would disagree and any other major pro player on that level would severely disagree with you....
You can't listen to JB for the wow, flash "show me something cool" factor....You won't get it.
You listen to JB for note placement, melody,phrasing,feel....

Do me a favor in all seriousness, listen to 2 of his albums, WIRED & JEFF BECK'S GUITAR SHOP and come back and tell me he's overrated as I suspect you haven't ever listened to him very much....

Fusion/Rock guitarist?!? LMAO! Just because he hired Fusion musicians to back him, doesn't make him a bona fide "Fusion" guitarist. At best, he was crafty enough to fit those same ol Rock/Blues riffs over Fusion tunes, much like his peer - Carlos Santana. Serious Fusion fans are expecting to hear some McLaughlin or Gambale level Fusion guitar with the kind of tunes his band performs. If I didn't know who Jeff Beck was, and heard his band on Youtube, I would think - damn, they should keep Tal Wilkenfeld and Vinnie Colaiuta, and replace that Rocker on guitar with a REAL Fusion player like Scot Henderson or Mike Stern. Sorry, I'm not impressed. In the "Going Down" days, I liked Alvin Lee more than Beck

Some people really need to learn to respect different opinions.
If someone disagree to their opinions, that person is dumb, or have bad tastes or never had enough of that artist etc.
DUDE, I like what I like and I dislike what I dislike no matter what people/magazines /radio etc say.
Stop pushing your opinions case they're not facts, we all have our own tastes, if you can't respect that, a forum is not a place for you, you should live alone with your amazing opinions.

I sometimes think steve vai is overrated when some guitar magazines and fanboys call him guitar god.... To me he is very good guitar player but not the best of all.... Technically or musically

Oh, and my vote? None of them. I think they all contributed something to their music with their playing. Their playing portrayed exactly what they wanted it to and helped build the song, that is all that matters, at least it is to me when I am writing my own stuff. Noone is saying that Cobain is a guitar god, but he sure managed to turn the world on it's ear with 3 chords.
