New thread / old thread

There've been a fair few threads that have been brought back to life from the dead recently.

If it's a common topic, like "what's your favourite pickup for the neck position?" and the like, one where the topic will always be relevant, is it better to dig up the old thread and lose the experience contained therein, or... is it better to get a fresh take on things?

Both have merits, but things move on and posters may offer different advice or opinions when asked the same thing years later, especially about gear.

On the other hand "do I need F-Spaced or ....." threads do not need re-inventing!

As you said, if the content is relevant then revive the thread. If theres a fresh look on it people will surely respond. But if someone asked something 2 years ago then theres not much point in answering him after 2 years. If he did not figured it out he probably lost interest by now. Or if someone posted pictures of his guitar collection a year ago then bumping it for the sake of increasing your post count is not cool.

Re: New thread / old thread

Every other forum I've seen this on everybody votes for the start a new thread option. Of course these are the same people who flip out on newbies for starting new threads.

I am hugely in favour of thread necromancy. If nothing else it encourages people to do a search and read through the thread before posting a question that has possibly been answered a bunch of times.
