Notebook Bang For Your Buck

I am looking at notebooks, and I am torn between getting a Mac or a PC.

I have always been a PC user - I've never owned a Mac.

There isn't one particular application that I am going to use the notebook for, except for having a machine to travel (email, internet and some Office type programs) and some light music production (pulling from the board at live shows for review, not for sale.) Maybe some light gaming (FPS.)

I'm shopping by price point. For $1500 I can get:

(HP) http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1166840116155

(MAC) http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1162592946997

Or is there something out there that costs as much or less than these two that would be a smat buy?

hehe. $1500 is too much for what you want to do with it. the apple has a 13" screen. Ugh.

follow this site for a few weeks before you purchase to get a good idea of what is available for what $$$

Re: Notebook Bang For Your Buck

I don't wanna go down that road again, but please don't buy a Mac.
Stick to what you know (PC), at least then you know you'll like it. And there won't be any unpleasant suprises for you. For what you need it for, I would say stick to a PC for definite.

I have heard some very good things about the new HP models, so they definitely won't be a bad place to start. Some of the new Sony Vaio models are pretty sweet too that I have tried.

But like Glen said, $1500 is a big budget for what you need.

Re: Notebook Bang For Your Buck

I wasn't trying to start a MAC vs PC debate! I probably would have been better off not starting a poll. Thanks for the info. I'll take Glen's advice and I'll also take the advice of godfather....I'm very pleased to hear that $1500 is a big budget for what I need.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Averatec

Cheap, good components, great looks. I got mine with a 5 year warrant for way under a thousand. I also have a HP one which is very nice. Don't get a Dell

+1000. Dell's computers, be it laptops or desktops, have short lifespan. Its desktop has an average lifespan of only 3 years, after which the CPU can run so irritatingly slow, worse than a Pentium II.

I'll choose a Toshiba laptop anyday.

You will never, EVER hear me bash HP in any way, shape or form I'm on an HP laptop now. That said, I've always like the Thinkpads best. They are great machines, and very reliable.

I've never owned a notebook, so my vote for MAC is based just on what I've heard from others.

Re: Notebook Bang For Your Buck

You can lock this thing up. I spent half of the day shopping the boxes today and wound up buying a HP DV2225 for $800. The size is perfect (not too big nor too small) and it seems as though it will do everything I need it to do.

Thanks for any advice that may have influenced my decision to purchase.
