I had to vote for Randy for the simple reason that i started to play guitar because of him. He is and will always be my "best guitarist"!

STEVE VAI
. The others don't even come close. I don't even have to explain why. Case closed.

For those of us that are in the dark, please explain, as I would have put Vai at that bottom of this list.

Eddie Van Halen/Rhodes/Hendrix/Vai/Vaughn/Clapton.
I thought of one part of Eddie's influence that has lasted beyond the 80's : The
locking tremolo
. Actually, all of the things he did to his guitar like painting it his way and putting a humbucker in a
strat style guitar
. All 3 took off in a huge way because of Eddie, and all can be seen still today.

No need for discussion or arguement.
The best are
Scott Henderson
, Greg Howe,
Richie Kotzen
and Frank Gambale.
I would LOVE to see Vai jamming with two of these on my dream G3. It was going to be so funny and tragic... Poor Vai.

Hmmm.....this wasn't written to start any wars.
Whatever dude...to each ther own.
I respect all the guys listed above....but Scott Henderson is so painfully boring, it puts me to sleep.
I would rather hear "light in loafers"
Eric Johnson
sing AC/DC songs then have to sit through a Henderson concert.

Eric Clapton
...I have seen them all live (except Hendrix) and the only one to give me goosebumps was Clapton. His power can't be matched by anyone on that list. Vai comes close, but no cigar.

Re: OF THESE 7 GUITARISTS, WHO IS BEST AND WHY???
i would say clapton cause his style is so smooth and he has so much soul into his style. I can play fast and technical, i can play blues and jazz, but i'm always out "souled" when it comes to nice smooth blues/jazz kinda stuff. Clapton is just a great guitarist!!!

SRV, all the way. Emotion out the wahzoo!! Riviera Paradise says is all. The emotion and feel in that song is unparalleled. And the TONE!!
And you have to give him credit for playing consistantly with 12's!! And Super glueing cuts back together?? Now that's dedication.

Re: OF THESE 7 GUITARISTS, WHO IS BEST AND WHY???
Kind of silly to post this on a Vai guitar site. Don't get me wrong I love all these guitarists. Especially Jimi and Stevie. I also love Eric Johnson. I like Vais
guitar playing
a lot better, I also like his innovations that he helped add to the industry. I can't get past the inspiration that Jimi and SRV gave to all these cats. I really think that they had a huge effect on the direction the instrument has taken over the years.
