Pantera vs. Metallica

Hey dudes - I joined a facebook group recently titled "real men listen to pantera" because Pantera rules - but on the groups page it said "Pantera is awesome, but metallica is still the best band ever." Anyway, I totally disagree - in fact I really don't like Metallica at all. I think their music sucks, and Lars Ulrich is a whiner. But thats just me. I don't run into many people that dislike Metallica as much as I do, but I'm sure there are plenty that think Pantera is better, and that Dime is far better than Kirk Hammett (RIP Dime). Anyways - on to the poll . . .

Oh I almost forgot - I intentionally made it so that there was no "I like both bands/guitarists" option to weed out you fence-sitters - put on your big-boy pants and make a decision!

Re: Pantera vs. Metallica

I wouldn't say "Pantera rules", though it would have been a different story in 1992, but that was the only half-sensible option on your poll. Metallica fell off in 1985 after Master of Puppets. It's only the n00bz that stick with them now, and IMO they truly stink. Pantera was far better. I saw both bands live and Pantera were very good indeed. I am not bothered about them now, but when I was a youth, yes, I loved them. I was also into Metallica back in 1983 and I think it's a shame what happened to them, how they went against everything they stood for and what they have become. Dime was an infinitely better player than Kirk Hammett.

Re: Pantera vs. Metallica

Pantera never sold out like pathetic Metallica, I must have been such a sh*t head to buy 'St anger', what the F*CK was that about? I really liked Metallica' in up until after the 'Black Album' in '91 then after that they were embarassing, out of the 2 i would pick Pantera anyday. Oh yeah Hetfield and Ulrich are f*ckng big time knob heads now

It would be a hard one to choose between Dime and Kirk, but for me I would pick Dime, purely because of his presence on Stage, man i miss him.

R.I.P. Dime

Re: Pantera vs. Metallica

I'm going to say Metallica all the way on this one! I don't have much of an opinion on who is the "better" guitarist though as neither Hammet or the bag man are on my top players list.

Re: Pantera vs. Metallica

I voted Metallica because way back in 5th grade the first band I ever got into was Metallica. In high school, the better part of my time was spent sitting on my ass playing video games while listening to either Master of Puppets, Ride the Lightning or Kill 'Em All.
And Kirk was one of the main reasons I picked up a guitar.
However, I also love Pantera. Part of me and my friends' unholy trinity was Pantera, the other two being Metallica and Danzig. (Suprisingly, no Slayer *shrug*). And Dime kicked serious ass all over my eardrums. So I love them both, but if I had to pick one, it would be Metallica.

Metallica got my vote, but the term better guitarist can't really go right on this poll.

Re: Pantera vs. Metallica

watch 20 minuets of metallica's some kind of monster ...... those dudes suck now .

pantera had an album come out at the top of the sales charts with no radio play, no mtv play , nothing like that it was all off of thier live shows , touring word of mouth and some cool rock stations that would play them . far beyond driven represented to me somthing much great then metallica ever could have done .

also to me it seems as though any of the younger guys playing now will say they were influenced by pantera , and ealy metallica . early metallca pre-1986 metallica was cool , then after that they sorta when down hill . that isn't to say musically but thier image as true metal dudes after 86 they wore makeup and became more commercial . that is fine but pantera never became comercial , they stuck to the roots and where extremly sucessful at . look at the music going on in 94 , it was grunge.

When it comes to writing music and lyrics and coming up with cool heavy riffs James is TONS better than both your options.

James is Metallica.

I like them both, and grew up listening to both of them. I think they are a lot different.

Yeah, it hit a new low when Kirk said he really didn't feel like doing solos anymore. What the hell...
