Re: Paul Gilbert Vs Yngwie Malmsteen

Mr. Angelo isn't the fastest. He's slow in comparison to alot of shredders. I think I heard somewhere that his max was around 16nps, although, his speed is a placebo effect, because his playing is so clean. Satch is the fastest, he hit 32nps or so live while playing Flying in a Blue Dream. Steve Vai is 2nd, with 21nps. Although I'm sure Jason Becker has sweeped faster than 21nps at some point.

AMD1014, you're still missing the fact that Jeremy Barnes was recorded at 40 notes per second. As far as I know he was clocked by the Guiness World Record team earlier this year.

I am SO VERY TIRED of everyone arguing over who is the fastest guitarist. Speed tests are inconclusive, unreliable, inconsistent, ambiguous, misleading and inadmissable in a court of guitar law. In the end, when all is said and done and the plectrum hits the Dean Markleys, we ALL know that the fastest man alive is unquestionably, incontestably and without any "shred" of doubt whatsoever (sorry about that cheap pun, I just couldn't resist) a certain VIKING whose name need not even be spoken to understand who we are talking about. So let's turn this whole thing around for just a second. Who do you think is the SLOWEST guitarist? Check this out: http://www.phiyaan-zek.com/content/view/26/43/

Yngwie is far from the fastest. Really realllly far. He's also incredibly sloppy, repetitive and aside from his inferior playing, he's also a stuck up little s*** who has his neo-classical head way too far up his neo-classical a$$ to even come close to writing a good song. [/rant]

Re: Paul Gilbert Vs Yngwie Malmsteen

i haven't read all 5 pages of this thread so i might be repeating someone else, but: you must consider what is being played. think about gilbert's insane stretches and string skipping. the lines he plays are more challenging than yngwie's, and are just as fast if not quicker. i'm also biased against yngwie. he's annoying to watch. on the previous G3 dvd, i used to always skip past his set. the only time i didn't skip it was when i fell asleep watching it (no joke). i do, however, have tremendous respect for his skill and he has great tone. in conclusion, pg>yngwie

Michael Angelo hits one septuplet run in No Boundaries that is about 22nps, and he can hold that speed.

Satch is not the fastest, as that was simply a one off flutter which was not maintained. Allan Holdsworth has hit above 40nps in similar situations, but no one second contains 40 notes. Get what I'm saying?

I saw a top ten last years of the fastest guitar players and Michael Angelo was number UNO, Rusty was on fifth place or something. Yngwie was second.

Not that anyone out there cares, but here is my personal opinion of Michael Angelo: A very boring guitarist. Still, I must admit that he is an amazing painter, have you seen the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel? Absolutely stunning. Even Yngwie can't paint like that.

honestly I think malmsteen plays faster in the 'notes per second' scale. but I like paul gilbert's style of playing more.

Folks, folks, folks...

When are you going to learn?

Ralph Macchio fast-forwarded in "Crossroads". THAT's speed. Yngwie and Paul sound like Clapton compared to that.

Anyway, Paul is better

Yngwie might be faster, but he only has a few good songs. The rest sound the same. I have yet to heard a Paul Gilbert or Racer X song I don't like.
