Question

Pick gauges?

Just curious.

I use Dunlop Tortex 0.88mm. The green ones. They're great: not too thin, not too thick. By the way, don't you just love the little turtle illustration on it?

The alligator illustration on the 'Gator grip' series is also really cool!

Re: Pick gauges?

Lately I've been using cool picks med or heavy. They are both pretty thick, and they have a nice point like the Jazz IIIs but they are closer to normal pick size. Plus they have a nice grip on them

Re: Pick gauges?

I've got Steve Vai's 'The secret jewel box'. And it came with three Steve Vai picks. They're beautiful. They're black, with the Vai logo on it. But, they're too thin for me. I don't know what gauge they are, but they're too floppy for me. That sounds cool: 'Too floppy for me'. Could be a cool name for a rabbit: 'Floppy'. Floppy the rabbit. Anyways, even if they were thicker, I wouldn't use them. They're too beautiful!

Kind regards,

Re: Pick gauges?

I was using Jazz III (138.mm) up til today. Going through my drawer i found a Dunlop Tortex 1.50mm that i had never used. Tried it today, and i've gotta say it feels much more comfortable than the Jazz and just feels right in the hand.

Re: Pick gauges?

1.00mm for rhythm and lead.
0.60mm for cleans.

They're Dunlop nylon picks.

Thumbs up

Re: Pick gauges?

I use Jim Dunlop Stubby Triangle, 3.0 MM. They're hard to find, so when I find some store that has them, I usually buy all that they have.

Currently I have 5 or 6, of which I'm actively using 2.

Regards,

D.

Re: Pick gauges?

I'm in the minority here..i use the Dunlop orange .60s. I like that they give a little when playing 'chicka chicka' style, but have enough substance to dig in to play leads. I don't do much super-fast shred stuff.

Re: Pick gauges?

I use the Jazz III's, but prefer the Jazz II's whenever I can get a hold of them (impossible nowadays). Who knew these picks were so popular around here

For acoustic or strumming I like the yellow dunlop tortexes (.73?) or even the half mm ones but that's about as low as I go.

Not to hijack the thread, but do you guys prefer the red or black jazz's? I noticed there's a huge difference in feel for me between them.
