Pickguards
I love them, guitars without them look bare...
Except of course for a really nice top...that would be the exception but even then some still look like they're missing something...

Re: Pickguards
Hard to say, love it on my UV777PBK, love that there isn't one on my RG2027.
I usually hate them when I need to rewire, that's so much easier on a rear routed guitar. But then again, a rear routed guitar with a pickguard is nice to, like a RG770DX. Looks great.

Re: Pickguards
It depends on the guitar so you didn't give me enough options in your poll.

Re: Pickguards
I guess it depends on the guitar, and its color. On a Strat, definately;
Les Paul
, definately; Telecaster, not at all. If its the same color as the body its alright, but the pick guard on a Tele is something I never liked.

i always thought the pickguard even tho its a hard material, gives the guitar a slight shimmery tonal responce, but i also like being able to see the whole amount of wood with the pups just popping out, and i trully feel like i get a better tone from rear route...but theres alot of people who will argue this, since its not like a pickguard doesnt have tone, i just think its a bit different

Re: Pickguards
If I can go without them I'm happier.
They're just a piece of plastic that goes TAC TAC TAC when you beat on them with your pick (especially on front loaded guitars).

Re: Pickguards
Pickguards depend on the guitar. If it has a particularly beautiful top, why would you want to cover it up with a piece of plastic?

If the guitar plays and sounds good I really don't care either way.

Re: Pickguards
I've never needed a pickguard, and I probably never will. In my eyes it makes the guitar look cheap, the only exception being Les Paul style pickguard on Les Paul style guitars.

Re: Pickguards
In essence we are choosing to have scratched up plastic over scratched up wood (if you scratch that is). That is funny. Instead of protecting your guitar it actually just removes the part you wanted to protect.
It's like protecting money buy spending it. Would you protect your wife by divorcing her? So what purpose is a pickguard again?
Now, I know what they are used for and I honestly do like strats but really we have to ask ourselves what they are for in most cases.

Re: Pickguards
Each model is a different model.
And the pickguard is part of the model.
But if you're that kinda guy that scratches the body a lot, then betta you get a pickguard.

Re: Pickguards
not really hate them, but find'em pretty much useless and a bit cheesy. it's a big piece of plastic, after all...
