PRS Singlecut vs Gibson Les Paul

When I left you I was but the learner, now I am the master...

OK not quite, but now the lawsuit's over and the production ban is lifted, and folks can officially tell the difference between these two guitars

If you were looking for a mahogany/maple one twinhumbucker guitar with one cutaway, where would your money go?

I've owned a Les Paul, it was awesome; however, I would have to go with the PRS, looks better, more unique, and it will probably sound better & be more versatile.

I've heard about the lawsuit, what was that all about?

Re: PRS Singlecut vs Gibson Les Paul

There's a thread onteh site about it if you're interested inthe details use the site's search function, but basically ...

Gibson said the PRS was too similar to the LP. A court agreed and the PRS SC stopped production. PRS appealled and won, the PRS SC resumed production.

Case history in a nutshell

Re: PRS Singlecut vs Gibson Les Paul

I've played a FEW LP's that sounded really good. Acoustically they really stood out. But playing wise I hate LP's. I don't like their neck shapes, although that is a very personal thing.

I of course love how PRS's feel and I've played many more SC's with "Mojo" then I have Les Pauls. We got in a Paul Custom(think it went for around 3G's), and right out of the box the neck was absolutely junk. We had to send it back. At first it seemed like the frets were just severely uneven but the neck was turning into a pretzel.

I've seen very few if any QC problems with PRS's. Gibson. Thats another story.

But as a whole, you know you gotta give props because without the Les Paul design, who knows what PRS's would be like.

Voted PRS, as I think they would look lovely with a monkey grip and a lions claw behind the fixed bridge.

PRS. 'Cause it looks better than an LP Standard and it comes with a trem.

Does PRS have a custom shop? If they do, I have one in mind!

Cool

Re: PRS Singlecut vs Gibson Les Paul

PRS are a good guitar& play alot better in some ways to the Gibson lps, but i have to say that the Gibson sound is much better, its sound is sonicly correct, i tested both guitars at medium & very high volume thew Marshall & Mesa stacks! the PRS crapped out at high volume! the lp worked better in high & low volume, overdrive or clean! the shape of the PRS lets its sound down even with good pickups the thing will not respond like a Gibson lp, harmonics & tone are much richer in the GIBSON lp more clear in clarity! but PRS play well indeed- FEEL GOOD TO PLAY! my vote is for the tryed tested & proven Gibson lp, Yes the Gibson is a lot harder to play but you just can't get that sound out of a PRS! What good is a guitar if it just looks great?

I'm going after looks too but I say Gibson Les Paul especially if they have some AAAAA quilt or flame maple tops.

Their sound is amazing and yes they are harder to play but they are so classic in every way.

I like their necks and frets.

Most of my favourite players have used them: Mark Knopfler, Steve Lukather, Gary Moore, Eric Johnson... just to name a few.

So there's few reasons why I'm going after Gibson Les Paul.

I voted Les Paul. I have two of them and I find that its very hard to beat the original when it comes to that type of sound.

Re: PRS Singlecut vs Gibson Les Paul

Had to go with PRS on this one... I've owned a couple pretty cool Les Pauls over the years, but I've also owned some real lemons (mostly in terms of sloppy construction). I don't think I'd ever have the confidence to buy another Les Paul sight unseen over the 'net.

I've found PRS's to be very consistent in terms of construction, feel, and tone. I'll admit that the Singlecut doesn't sound like a Les Paul, but I'd far rather buy a Singlecut and put Gibson pups in it than take a chance on another LP.
