Sex & Religion

Does anyone here like this album? I personally love it. I originally bought the cassette when it came out and fell in love with it. I eventually transferred it from tape to CD. I might go quite a while without listening to it, but every time I get it out, it doesn't leave my CD player for at least a couple of weeks.

I think Steve's solos are phenomenal on this album, and Terry Bozzio is just a sick drummer. T.M. Stevens is a really good bassist (though I like Billy better) and I really like Devon Townsend's vocal style. It fits perfectly with the music. I like Steve's voice and everything, but I prefer it when he just plays

So, I just want to know if I'm alone in my admiration for this album. I would probably rank it in my top 3 faves along with Passion and Warfare and Fire Garden.

That's a tad harsh glen

Not exactly a classic though, but it has some redeaming qualities.

My thoughts exactly. I was seriously let down when it was released. I had my hopes all up for a kind of PAW 2.

S&R is the only Vai album I don't own

Re: Sex & Religion

I personally love sex and religion, Vai's playing is as usual flawless and Devins vocals are so unique - i love the whole album, it's just full of great, well crafted songs. Sure it's no Passion and warfare but what else is ...

....umm, hang on a minute, it'll come to me ....... lol, I'll have to go and listen again.

Seriously though, it does proved interesting listening as a transition between phases of Vai's work - to my ears there is a big difference in his style before and after that album (ignoring ALS)

I'm starting to sound like a complete muso ponce now!

I love the album. A lot of my non-guitar music friends dig it too. It was just so different and heavy. It still is quirky and good.

Re: Sex & Religion

I thought this album was more out of the box for Steve, I think it was great, and one of his most important record with heavy overtones even though he had bad press on this album and every one was looking for PAW2, so of course you can not compare this to a instrumental album.

I still even listen to Devin Towsend Band or SYL, I think he is a great undiscovered talent that is not main stream

I say YEA, how say YOU
