That's interesting, I'll have to dig out my CD. Thanks for that.

I fear it's going to be changed to "Can't touch this" around Jan 21.

However, "Liberty" is an instrumental piece, I think a national anthem needs to have lyrics, so as people can have something to sing along to while standing for their respective anthem. A crowd of people humming a tune, while interesting might seem a bit... weird? As I said, great tune but not really appropriate for a National Anthem.
You do realize that the Spanish National Anthem has no lyrics, right? It's the only national anthem not to have any.

And Radiohead's "The National Anthem" would be better.

Kind of off topic but does anybody else cringe when they hear these "divas" butcher the National Anthem at big events. Their vocal showboating just seems plain disrespectful, overdone, cliched and distasteful.

Yeah, I think so too. But, it's better than celebs who can't sing singing it, ala Rosanne and I forget who else id the same think poorly.

"Needs more cowbell."

Would be a little hard to sing, wouldn't it?

Why would it change to a hammer song?

I'm 100% sure that Jimi would've done something ten times as awesome if he had had access to a Universe and an Eventide.

This is what he did in the studio in 1969!

How in the world can you say this sounds boring?

Doubtful it's the only one...note that they don't have lyrics, but are actively discussing adding lyrics, so that footballers and fans will have something to sing along to, before international matches

They didn't want Lyrics as they have at least a dozen official languages in Spain (Castillian, Catalan, Basque, Galician, Aragonese, Asturain etc.) But South-Africa, Belgium and Switserland show that a multilingual anthem can be done, even if the proposed Belgian Prime Minister failed to identify his own national anthem, in stead, singing the French

Re: Should Steve Vai's Liberty be the new National Anthem?

why do all these threads recently end up in a stupid bouts of Jimi bashing, can't we just stick to burning Kirk or [ insert favourite has-been ] ?

No Jimi =
No Whammy abuse -> no Floyd -> no Lopro
No Octavia -> No Eventide
No 100W Marshall (yeah I know Townshend had a lot to do with it but he quickly jumped ship to WEM)

99& of all processors are built to emulate sounds Jimi made popular
the list goes on and on...

do you seriously think Vai would have attempted to play TSSB thát way, if Jimi hadn't done so in his style? Do you think we would be having this discussion? Just accept Jimi's greatness and all shall be well.

Oh and btw there is very little whammy abuse in Jimi's studio version of the US anthem.
