Re: Shredders that blues!!
From the list Yngwie, and
Marty Friedman
. Off the list, as mentioned before,
Gary Moore
.
I'm a big Vai fan, but he doesn't do the blues very well. Even he says so.

A close second out of the newcomers and #1 in the over the top performance category goes to Eric Sardinas.
I love sardinas as well. He keep coming back to the same areas around iowa 3-5 times a year and I got see him every time, such a great show.

Re: Shredders that blues!!
Shredders shouldn't blues, they can't really blues.Anybody here that respects the blues at all knows that blues is a whole other world.A shredder bluesin' is just shreddin' in minor or major pentetonic(maybe some mixolydian or dorian),its still shredding.I've seen Dream Theater live and during Petrucci's solo he got pretty bluesy for a minute.Satch can blues pretty good too.I love the blues and shred but,a blues guy can't shred and a shredder can't really, honestly blues.

None. These guysr are really good players but they just can't do the blues. Not as a blues player does. Blues isn't shredding IMO.

Surprisingly, I agree - I thought Yngwie's blues playing was surprisingly good, when I first heard it - I'd read a few interviews where he'd said more or less the same (that he was a surprisingly good blues player) and I initially discounted him as just being ****y, but turns out the dude wasn't lying.

Yeah. I've never been impressed by Vai's blues playing. He sounds like Zappa trying to play the blues.
I also agree that
Joe Satriani
, as far and away the deepest rooted in blues traditions of any of the blues guys, is a VERY curious admission here.

Re: Shredders that blues!!
I disagree with the idea that shredders can't play blues. Blues can take so many forms. B.B. King's blues are so different from the early blues of Blind Lemon Jefferson or Son House and Johnny Winter is a "shredder" compared to any of them. I think that saying these new guys can't play blues is like saying that they can't play rock and roll just because they don't sound like chuck berry or jerry lee lewis.
