Standard Musical Notation vs. Tabs

Which notation do you prefer? Standard musical notation (sheet music) or tablature?

Re: Standard Musical Notation vs. Tabs

Tabs on their own are kind of useless if you haven't heard the song, because they don't give you and note duration information.

Re: Standard Musical Notation vs. Tabs

once you learn how to read standard notation, tabs seem completely worthless. now that i can read well, i find it far more difficult to read tabs because there is no flow to them. you cant sight read tabs and play something youve never played before. plus the lack of rhythmic notation makes it even more difficult to use tab practically not to mention the fact that if you play with anyone who isnt a guitarist, youre pretty much screwed if you only can read tab.

Re: Standard Musical Notation vs. Tabs

I'm a classical guitarist so you can guess I voted for standard musical notation.

Re: Standard Musical Notation vs. Tabs

Standard notation. I'd rather figure out my own fingerings, which i can also do with tab, but it's more of a pain in the ass. Also, notation without note values is worthless IMO.
