I was about to diss alex and say that paul gilbert could rock out better and both paul and vai had 'the hair', but luckily I googled him first and realized he both is in f'kn Testament and is a jazz musician.

Now I completely agree with you

You would diss someone without knowing a thing about him/her?

Re: steve vai vs. paul gilbert

I was never a big Testament fan, although I always did like Alex...He's grown immensely as a player since he first came out...Love him with TSO

The reason he's not as good as Vai is becuase his guitars have no swirls, vines, or handles...WTF?

However you should start a Vai vs Skolnick thread...That could be funny.

I'm baffled and mildly amused as to why you referenced Speak Of The Devil, Creatures Of The Night, and end with "you could say I shred" when those are 2 of the most shredless albums ever made. As well as being 2 very confusing albums in time for either act! You might have been better off with ABBA and Blondie records as examples...

Re: steve vai vs. paul gilbert

I don't get why he keeps bagging on Vai for not being metal (Especially saying Gilbert is "more metal"...I guess he's missed about half of Gilbert's discography...)when Vai, to my knowledge, has never claimed to be metal...?

You Speak Sacrilige 'Equating' Ozzy's "Speak of the Devil" Live Album and KISS' Most Hard Hitting & Hungriest Effort
With the likes of "Blondie" And "ABBA"
!?

(You Are "Truly "Smokin' CRACK"!) and,
(
(The METAL GOD's TRULY "SCOFF"[/b])

Obviously It's Been So Long Since you Truly Listened to "Speak of the Devil" and KISS' Most Hard Hitting & Serious album, that you've Perhaps Become So "Desensitized" As To what Can Even Qualify As Shred/Metal!

To Say that Guitarist Brad Gillis, Drummer Tommy Aldridge & Bassist Rudy Sarzo Don't "Shred"
on this OZZY "Speak of the Devil" Album and their Treatment, or
"Re-Interpeted" Versions of "Van Halenized"
English Black Sabbath Music
in An Early '80's "Post Van Halen"/Guitar Worldwith Newly Developed Floyd Rose+ High Gain Mesa/Boogies used on This Album!

And for YOU to say it Doesn't "Shred"?!, Is To Say You MUST BE DEAF!/Dumb & Blind Broseph!

I "thought" YOU were Pretty Cool when I Read One of your Posts where You [/U]said 'back in the day' You Wanted To be A "KISS Dude or Member"!

I Can Totally Relate as well, and Its Obvious Dimebag felt the Same as we can Look Back on Pics of Him In Ace Face-Paint & Costume etc!

Im' Sure Dime's Parents were A Lot More Tolerant of Him Dressing Up & Wearing Kiss Makeup than MY Parents were!

Funny Story:I Used To Get In Trouble when my 'Dad' would See That I Had Been Wearing 'Kiss Makeup' when I Would Come Home from my KISS Freak Friend "Cezar's House", After School in the 7th Grade(1979) and would see Metallic Silver Residue I hadn't washed away on my fACE!

(My Dad foolishly thought KISS was SATANIC!?!)

But Me and Cezar Still Threw on KISS "ALIVE" or "Alive II" after School, and LOUD! And!, We "were So Inspired by KISS' "ALIVE" MUSIC We'd Do Our Own
"AIR GUITAR KISS CONCERTS!" and He Usually Painted on Himself Gene's Face, I Always Did ACE's Makeup.

But After I Started Playing Guitar, For Like A Year or Two, I Always Pictured Myself with That Ace Frehley "Elder" Era album & "Creatures" Cool Body Suit He Wore in '81/'82, with The Marshall Stack" & Gibson Explorer or
Hamer Standard!~Actually Owning One, "Both?! One Day!

And!, I Only Referenced those albums as to What had "Begun" my "Shred Quest" back in Late '82, early '83. When I was a 15 year old youngster, You Know, What Initially "Got Me INSPIRED ENOUGH to GET SERIOUS ABOUT the GUITAR Dead Dude!

I Also was Really Impressed with Scorpions "Blackout" Album Right When I Got "Serious' About the Guitar!

But, You'd Probably Say that Album "Does'nt SHRED Either!?"

But getting Back to KISS, I Even Thought For Some Crazy Reason that I Could Somehow "Be", Ace Or Vinnie, with The Marshall Stacks! & "GOLD" Jackson Rhoads Model w/"Gold Hand-Painted Logo" or Gibson/Hamer/Dean Explorer Guitars!

Another Historic Fact of Note Is KISS' "Creatures of The Night" Album was the 1st Time Any Of Us Guitar Dudes EVER SEEN or "Heard" of EMG 81 Active Guitar Pickups! As Both Paul Stanley and New Guitarist Vinnie Vincent Both Sported EMG 81's into "High Gain Marshalls" As Early as 1982!

To ACTUALLY "LEARN HOW"!
To Take A Guitar and Amp, and Make it Sound Like THAT!,
Were My 1st, Guitar Goals.

THEN, I Heard SLAYER in April or May of 1983, Right Before they were Releasing their 1st Album "Show No Mercy" on "Metal Blade Records, and Promoting It on a Local, L.A. Late Night Metal Radio Show.

And Then I Was Set!, ( I Basically Ran To the Record Store!) , to get "Show No Mercy" later that week !

And, as I Always Used To Record Every "Mighty Metal Shop",
Hour or More Broadcast's on My Stereo Cassette Boombox and the more I Rewound and Listened To the Tape and the :"SLAYER, Die By the Sword" Song,
The More I Realized That "True Metal" Had Arrived!

(Oh yeah!,Queensryche,Ratt & Warrior Had ALSO Come Out in 1983, but 'How & "Why' They 'Strayed', So FAR, from their ORIGINAL "METAL"Intent , IS "BEYOND" ME!)

"THANK GOD", (For L.A. Guitarists & Metalists) there was "ALWAYS",
ARMORED SAINT!!

I Don't think Most Guitarists(Nationwide-Worldwide) EVEN KNOW
"HOW EXCELLENT" ARMORED SAINT Actually Is!

(If Your'e A 'Guitarist', 'Bassist', 'Drummer', 'Vocalist' (YouTube)
ANYTHING 'Armored Saint' and You will Be Fully Impressed!

Then, Shortly Later I Became hip to Exodus, Yngwie, Mercyful Fate & Metallica's "Ride the Lightning" in 1985, Anthrax, Flotsam,& King Diamond in '86, Testament in '87, Sepultura in '89,Kreator, Deicide & Pantera in '90, Carcass in '91,Entombed"Clandestine in '92, etc,etc

For A Guitarist Dude, these Basic Influences Are "A Must Have" for Any Guitarist that Says He Jams! Mr. "DEAD"

+1 to that.

All he said was that Speak of the Devil and Kiss' Creatures are not shred-o-matic albums so they aren't a very good bouncing off pointing for stating "im a shredder'.

Mr. "DEAD"
I also wanted to be a cowboy and dressed up like Jesse James but then I grew up! Those albums don't shred. Google "shred" bands or records and see how long it takes for Speak and Creatures to come up...
And I'm not cool by the way...I'm an ex-has been/husband/father/business owner...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ozzy for the record was pressured into doing that live record and doesn't consider it himself to be a part of his discography, and Creatures has the most unimaginative solos in the history of music except maybe Bryan Adams "Everything I Do I Do It For You song... That album was so quickly put together that years later they reshot the cover with Bruce Kulick, and then put the original cover back...Ace was in the band, in the videos, and on the cover, but it was recorded with Vinnie and various studio guys, it was an absolute mish mosh of personal crises going on and they were attempting to reclaim some sort of popularity after the Elder debacle...Referencing 2 records that were clearly in the forefront of painful moments in time for those respective bands seemed funny to me... That's all.

Brad Gillis doesn't rate as a shredder to me because he isn't one...But I didn't say he sucked though!

Kiss grossly under used Vinnie or any studio guys as the lack of quality solos on "Creatures" will attest! Those leads are at best average early 80's run of the mill...Plus Kiss is well known for using anyone in the area to play parts on their stuff...Especially Gene and their lead guitar parts!

Re: steve vai vs. paul gilbert

Dude, get off the crack! What is the point of that incoherent babble?

Why is everything about metal? Vai never claimed to be metal, and most of PGs back catalogue is not metal, but does that matter? No. This forum is not just about metal.
