Question

Synesthesia

Hi everybody,

I associate numbers and letters with colors. A while ago I found out that this is a common phenomenon, called synesthesia. I was just wondering if there are many people here who are also synesthetic.

Anyways, here's how I percieve things:

1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9

ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ

If you can't see certain numbers or letters, they are either white or light yellow.

Kind regards,
Myst

Re: Synesthesia

I don't do that. It's a very normal thing, synesthesia. You can read all about it if you click on the link.

In the past, I thought it could be some kind of defect. But it's actually very normal. It was somewhat of a relief when I found out about synesthesia.

Re: Synesthesia

While maybe common... it is reffered to as a "neurological condition" LOL

The first person I met who did something like this was Ron Thal... aka Bumblefoot aka.... his method was a little different though... He associated letters & numbers to notes & short phrases. Now that I think of it .. He was also the last person I met who does that

As a side note... I'm not sure if it's possible to spend too much time in those coffee shops. It is however quite possible to loose large blocks of time in them though. LOL

Re: Synesthesia

I don't really associate colors with numbers, but whenevr I hear a sound, certain colors appear in my head. It's weird, especially when I'm listening to a song.

Also, when I'm listening to a song, I "view" the song as a time line, with certain "events" occurring at each point in the song. It's strange, and I've tried to explain it before, but I no one understands.

Re: Synesthesia

This thread made me realise I was one though not in the color way. I have read the link you provided and was quite amazed to discover that I am a synesthesic.

I don't think of colors when I see numbers or letters, but each number has a certain personal charecter for me. Like 7 is the stern king of all the numbers and 9 is his beautiful queen wife.

Wow, I thought everyone had that. I used to ask my friends what gender the numbers were and they told me that they didn't know. This is has been quite an amazing discovery.

I think Joe Satriani has that too. During this video I posted a while ago, he says something similar when he shows the rhythym part to the chorus of 'Super colossal'. He says "Just striking the strings to see what colors come out.". It's at 12m 46s.
