Question

The bridge on your main guitar?

Hi,

For many years I've been playing my Yamaha with a Wilkinson. I've removed the bar, so I don't use the unit for vibrato. But I'm getting another guitar now, which will be my main guitar, and it will have a Floyd Rose unit. It allows me to play more expressive, I find.

So I thought I'd post this poll to see what you guys prefer on your guitar.

I don't have a main guitar. I have a Prestige RGT220A and Strat Plus. Mood dictates which one I play.

Double locking trem!

When I don't have one I instinctively reach for the bar and grab nothing but air...

Very frustrating...

I do the same thing with the RG3EX but I love how it plays.
All other guitars have a trem.

Re: The bridge on your main guitar?

my main guitars used to all be Floyds (Jem, JC and UV)...I love having the Floyd at my disposal, but since I got my Parker I don't gig with the Ibanez's much. The Parker's trem pales by comparison, so i had it blocked.

The overall versatility of the Parker outweighs the use of the Floyd on the Iby's. (at 4.5 lbs, it's rare that a Parker outweighs anything ) If I need a whammy, i can alwys grab a different guitar.

How's that for a non-committal answer? :-p

Trems for me as well. The majority of my guitars are trem equipped. Although the lo-pro is my favourite trem, my two main players (jem7vwh and rg8670) have edge pro trems on them

The main stage is covered by jem 777 sk and my gibson LP, but i am slightly more into my jem because of the trem and the things it can do because of it. Otherwise, the hardtails are fine. Although, i gotta say that the les paul is the only guitar in y rig with a stop tail bridge

Interesting replies, guys. I think the second option is destined to get the most votes. We'll see...

Out of curiosity, what kind of hardtail guitars do you guys have, then? If you don't mind me asking?

Btw, check out this guy:

He's very happy with his hardtail!

Re: The bridge on your main guitar?

My strat plus is set up as a hardtail with 5springs. I had put the backstop in my RGT220A because with my hand resting on the bridge would shift the pitch a bit. With the strats knob being in the way of where my hand would normally rest I relearned to pick with my hand not resting on anything.

Now when I go back to my RGT I don't need the backstop so I took it out this morning. It has great return to pitch either way and I don't wammy much cept for some chord vibrato anyway.

Wow, that's quite difficult! I have to anchor my hand whilst picking, otherwise I'll screw everything up, for sure.

I do the occasional divebomb, but mostly I use the bar for slightly exaggarated vibrato and nuances... Having said that, I feel I haven't completely developed my playing style, yet, when it comes to whammy.
