Nah, the Strat I sold didn't have original pickups (period correct but non-staggered) was routed for a bridge bucker at one point, had aftermarket tuners on it at one point, I got it cheap and sold it cheap, I just wanted to stand in the mirror and look like Jimi haha. The neck just doesn't fit my hand at all.

Re: The splatter strats
That's the first time I heard of the 'bowling ball' strats. I don't like them very much. A swirl just doesn't look good on a strat, IMO.
By the way, seeing that
Jimi Hendrix
came up a few times in this thread, did you guys know there used to be a Jimi Hendrix
signature Stratocaster
? It was right handed, but was mirrored. So it looked kind of like a left handed model. It even came with a curly white cord. It was pretty amazing. Basically, it was a reproduction of the guitar Jimi Hendrix used at Woodstock.
Kind regards,
Myst and rain

Re: The splatter strats
Yeah, I remember that, wasn't the actual Fender logo on the headstock on backwards and everything? That was interesting. Now all I need is fingers that are 10 inches long and 5 hits of acid...

Re: The splatter strats
That's right (regarding the headstock). There's one on eb*y right now. The current bid is already quite high. You'll find a lot of photo's of the guitar there. I think it's a cool guitar, but I'd never buy it.
Kind regards,
Myst and rain

I'll likewise give them credit for making an attempt, but no, I don't like 'em.

Re: The splatter strats
Gee whiz, Fender, way to step out on a limb by putting a crazy new finish on the same damn guitar you've been building for 50 years.
Don't get me wrong, I like Strats and Teles, but I'm simultaneously irked by the way in which Fender parlays all their clout and creativity into methods of repackaging marketing the same thing over and over and over. Then again, being one of the first companies to produce a bolt-on solid body
electric guitar
and the first to make an electric bass are pretty big laurels to rest on.

Re: The splatter strats
I love the way people are slating strats, such as above, 'new finish on the same damn guitar you've been building for 50 years'.
Remember, Ibanez have been putting new, and the same finishes on the same guitars for years too.

Re: The splatter strats
I was really slating strats when I said, "...I like Strats." Ibanez rests on their laurels, too, and that's not right, and I'm not sure how they came into this discussion, but considering how Ibanez made their name making copies of other guitars, it's only appropriate.
Fender, on the other hand, arguably revolutionized the electric guitar, but hasn't really done much after that, other than catering to traditionalists and saving all their newer ideas for the low-end Squier line (like the modder-friendly '51, or 7-strings) so as to not sully their name if the design isn't well-received. But, like I said too, they don't really have to innovate anymore... be nice if they would.
Interestingly, on the thread about the 20th anniversery RG, people were ruminating about how far the RG has come and how much it has changed over time (though not many are happy with how it currently is) and how hard it would be to imagine how the 20th would look like, combining all the traits of what it has been in the past. On the other hand, I think we'll all know what the 100th anniversery stratocaster will look like.
