The "Which Thread Must DIE 2006" Poll

Which thread must be given last rites and deleted immediately as soon as they're started?

Good luck and happy bidding!

Re: The "Which Thread Must DIE 2006" Poll

I voted "All of the Above"..... however, the first choice isn't too bad. Some are just looking for advice. It sure seems like the threads that require opinion as to "who's the ______" (fill in the blank) end up getting heated and locked down. I don't understand why people get so passionate about something so unimportant in the grand scheme of things. But that's just my take on it.

No, it certainly isn't.....I figured that would be painfully obvious as a reference to how stupid some of the threads are.

As far as the first one...sure some people are looking for advice. But how many sites are online that host user reviews? (harmony central, etc)

But my point is this: Anyone with enough sense to come onto this site (or any other guitar-related site) that can't perform a simple thread search to look up the other 300 times their question has been asked and answered shouldn't be clogging up the boards.
Every time I've seen one of those threads....people's responses are the same, and it's the correct reply: "Go down to the shop, play every one in there, and get the one that best fits your playing style and your wallet."

How many times have you bought a guitar (or anything else) purely based on what a complete stranger posted on a message board? That was my point in including that poll selection, not to deprive anyone from advice, but they should at least generate a little effort on their part.

Harmony Central isn't exactly the best place to find reviews. Hell, I've read that a reviewer said that the Gretsch White Falcon sux because, OMG! It's an old fashioned guitar and such a guitar can't handle modern stuff.

I know I'm generalising a bit too much here, but I see a lot of similar reviews from HC and Ultimate Guitar. I agree, a lot of newbies think it's easier to post a new thread than to dig through threads. But if you're tired of answering the same questions over and over and over and over again, then IMHO simply don't reply. And as for "going down to the shop..." in some places they don't carry the models these people are looking for, so they would have to bite the bullet by going online. But of course they would want some reassurence as to the quality of the guitar. To sum it all I vote for all threads except for the first one to be banned. But if we get similar 'what to buy' threads then there will have to be some cooperation on the mod's part to tell them to dig it up followed with a lock.

My 2 sen anyways.

P.S: Although the who's the bestest guitarist sure raises a chuckle for me.

Re: The "Which Thread Must DIE 2006" Poll

You really have to dig through Harmony Central to find a truely educated and comprehensive review of a product. The young guns are too quick to say "it sucks, or it's great" without telling you why.

Re: The "Which Thread Must DIE 2006" Poll

I'd throw each of them into the garbage can. People who see music as a competition should be banned from the Internet. Too many musical forums polluted with by the most-notes-per-second/better-than-your-fav-guitarist junk already.

I voted Delete all.... but I'm also sure that someone is thinking on delete this one too... mmmh, maybe the best idea is to leave this forum as much open as it used to be and don't read nor leave your opinion on mentioned threads.

Which proves that it's not really a good site for reviews. At least here, you'll get more frequent educated responses.
