To Punch in the throat, or not punch in the throat

I found out at work today that a guy who is notorious for throwing poeople under the bus to make himself look good pulled his usual shenanigans with me. The thing is I had nothing to do with what he messed up. The foreman knew this and it never got back to me that he did this until today, over a year later. Needless to say Im pissed. Why he felt he needed to lie to cover himself up and to blame me, who was there to learn what needed to be done and who was not supposed to work unsupervised, is beyond me. My dilemma is most of the other guys say to just let it go and watch myself around him. The problem with that is that I didnt do anything to mess up in the first place, so I can watch myself all I want, but it wont necessarily help.

So, do I hit the guy, scream at him, or just let it go.
I know it's been over a year and I didnt get in any trouble or get a reputation for being a fck up from it but still.

Ive had similar things happen to me, and you have to lay down the law. Let them know you don't care who they fvck with as long as it's not you, and that you'd better not have to have this talk again. Treat him like you would a 2 year old, demeaning him in a mature way while verbally/mentally dominating the situation is the way to go. kicking the guys rat@ss only makes you look like a raging sh!thead, and you need to be more professional about how you handle this.

Guy's definitely a tool, no doubt...

I have no problem advocating violence when I am not personally involved.

Do little things to annoy him to no end, but doesn't involve violence or possibly loosing your job, and do it to where he doesn't know who it is, and do it over a long period of time... I mean, violence is good and all, but not having a job sucks.

You have to let it go and show the foreman that you're the more sensible guy. Establishing a reputation for not messing up is great, but having a reputation of being above suspicion when things do go wrong is even better. Maintain a great work ethic, be the "go to" guy and keep smiling.

If anything, have a word with your boss and, in a positive way, say you're glad he knew it wasn't you and you appreciate the trust and confindence he has in you but you'd perhaps have liked to opportunity to talk this over with him at the time it happened and would hope he'd come to you sooner if it happens again.

Like Left Robb says, violence is good. A paycheque is better.

Come on Cid, if you want revenge I know you can be alot more creative than a punch to the throat.

You can still talk to him without looking like the one at fault. Letting it go would send no message at all.

In this case I would let it go. If I understand the situation correctly this happened over a year ago, which means, it's a bit late to talk to the guy now.

Of course, if he tries to pull something like this again, you need to lay down the law by talking to the guy, and if that does not work, plant your fist right between his eyes.

Good luck!

I wouldn't put any energy in this, Elcid. It's kinda pointless. It's a year ago and your reputation @ your work wasn't harmed, so..

Like others have said; I'd watch myself around him and when something happens again, I'd just explain the whole thing to my employer in the presence of the guy.

We have a saying in The Netherlands that goes like this: no matter how fast the lie is, the truth will always catch up to it (freely translated). It's like that.

Just casually let your bosses know you know about it. Makes him look a pr!ck and means he won't be believed so readily(if at all) in future.
When i was 20, i'd of put him 10 feet under but as you get older you lose the hot-headedness and put your brains where your fists are!!!

Be the grownup and let it go Cid. The sh1t happened over a year ago and it ain't worth getting your panties all in a bunch about it. In the instance that you ever get a chance to say something to the guy, make sure there's people around him and make a comment that says something to the effect of "at least I don't go around blaming other people for my f-ups" and say it loud enough so that everyone will hear it and smile while you're saying it to him.

I agree with those that say to let it go. However, I voted for the punch in the throat. That's just how I roll. LOL

Re: To Punch in the throat, or not punch in the throat

Let it go, don't speak to him at all. Your foreman knows (and seems to have known back then) you weren't involved, so put this one in your pocket and keep it quiet. If anything should ever happen again, you can pull it out as a pattern and possibly demand he be let go or disciplined in some other way. But put this one in the bank and don't let on to him you know he stabbed you in the back.

Then mail him a box of dog excrement on Christmas, with a card that says, "Love, Mom". Nothing big or ostentatious mind you, as it's the thought that counts.
