To wallhang or not to wallhang ?

How do you lay your guitar to rest ? I really like wallhangers, both visually and safe-wise, but what about the strain on the headstock ? Most shops display their guitars on hangers though. Yer 2cts plz, Thx

Re: To wallhang or not to wallhang ?

I hang a lot of my guitars because I don't have anywhere else to put them! That said I've never seen that it's hurting my instruments in any way. But actually, all my high-end guitars live on stands or in the case. I like looking at them too, so having them hang there is nice.

Re: To wallhang or not to wallhang ?

I posted this picture in another thread but
its appropriate for here.

I recently bought this...no strain on the neck and I like the looks of it better.

Re: To wallhang or not to wallhang ?

I've got them in stands. I've considered hanging them on the walls, but I think it's just to risky. If you accidentally bump it, it gets hurt. And I don't like the idea of the stress the headstock gets. I would consider hanging them horizontally, though. Then it's less risky and the headstock gets no stress.

Kind regards,
Myst

The only time my Jem's EVER leave the case is when I'm Jamming, or working on them.

The wall might be a good place. But a stand is easier to bring to wherever you play.

All mine have nice warm cases. I only have one stand and it holds whatever guitar I am playing at that time.

Re: To wallhang or not to wallhang ?

Well, I must say I find a guiatr more vulnerable to accidental bumps when they are on a stand. If you bump them haning in a decent hanger, they just wiggle from left to right and that's it.

A case is indeed a good place, but a little unpractical, especially when you like to switch or compare (I have 3 Ibz).

Horizontal mount is not a bad idea indeed... but probably 3x more expensive (not really up to the price of a decent guitar of course), harder to mount and less intercompatible.

Just comparing options, all have their + and -. Headstock stress might be a very big - (however only -) in a hanging situation. Any Luthiers around ?

Why is a horizontal mount harder to mount than a vertical one?
The one I just put up is a one piece unit.
2 screws, one stud.

I dont really see how its less compatible either.
The one I got was specifically a "narrow" profile
but they make more standard widths if you need to fit different styles in one. (acoustic..electric)

Yes the one i got was $32 bux, but i concider that chump change for something that looks that good :P

Re: To wallhang or not to wallhang ?

i have a special room for my guitars, with five of them (so far) hanging on the walls with spotlights on them. the rest are on a rack on the floor.

having pretty guitars on display makes up for the fact that i am a terrible guitarist.

Re: To wallhang or not to wallhang ?

Well I have had 6 of my 10 hanging on the wall for over a year now, I have not noticed any issues with necks going out or anything, but then again Im in a low humidity level area...

One thing Hanging on the wall does do, is make me play different guitars as apposed to having them in a closet and have to dig them out which is why some I have not touched again in Months because there are in the closet... (Like my PMC)

I also perfer the Hercules GSP38WB hangers, which self lock on the wall.

Me too. Since I got my Jem a few months ago I feel like it ought to be in it's case when I'm not doing anything with it. I'd like to keep that thing as nice as possible as long as possible! It's the beaters that I hang up.
