UV77MC or Carvin Legacy

If you had an Ibanez JEM7V and a 50watt Prince Stinger Pro amp, would the next thing you buy be an Ibanez UV77MC or a Carvin Legacy half-stack.

I've asked similar to this before, and already know what I'm going for next, but just purely out of interest...what would it be?

The Carvin, because you already have a great guitar.

Re: UV77MC or Carvin Legacy

I've always felt that your gear should be matched from a price and quality point of view. So your a $1500 amp should be comparable to a $1500 guitar, etc. You can play around a bit, so if you have $500 worth of FX, a $1000 amp to match a $1500 guitar, that's ok.

But to have a $5000 guitar (UVMC) and play it through a crappy $100 amp, that's just plain silly.

Re: UV77MC or Carvin Legacy

There is no shortage of Legacy amps. But you don't often have the means to get a UVMC (when you can find one). Get the UVMC. Plus, you don't have a 7 string, you have an amp. The UVMC will also increase in value down the road, the amp won't. I could go on and on...

Re: UV77MC or Carvin Legacy

You see, that's the only objection I had against getting a Legacy, the rarity of the UV77MC's, but I do feel my amp is letting me down tone wise and doesn't allow the JEM to really...express it's true tone, and tone is very important to me.

Damn UV77MC's! They're so awsome...

Although I'd say the wiser choice would be the Legacy amp.

Without a doubt, I think you should go for the Universe.

Apparently, each UV77MC looks quite different than the next. As you can tell in the thread to which I posted a link below. I may be interesting to check out. Some of them are mostly pink, or mostly green, or mostly yellow... Those, I think, aren't really beautiful.

Re: UV77MC or Carvin Legacy

What's more important to you? Getting a 7 string or a new decent amp .

How often have you seen decent amps at good prices? How often have you had the opportunity to get a UVMC?

Re: UV77MC or Carvin Legacy

I think it all comes down to making the decision that YOU feel most comfortable with. There are many variables that can allow you to make such a decision like, a wife, money, the desire to own a very special guitar, etc. On the other hand (and this is how I made the decision to purchase my chromeboy as opposed to buying it and a jsx from the getgo), if I found a guitar that was rare enough like the universe, I would purchase the guitar. The legacy is a great amp from what I've heard but, let's face it, the amp is not going to be discontinued anytime soon, and even if it was, you could still buy it on the bay.

Re: UV77MC or Carvin Legacy

The guitar is rare. The amp is common. Get the guitar, and you can always get the amp the next time you collect the cash.

Amen. I got my X-100B half stack for $545, and that included shipping the beast! And not only is it a great amp, but it is pretty much what they go for in great condition, too. If you actually can get the UV, then get the UV. They are collectible, and will rise in value also. A Legacy half stack won't do that.
