Vibrato: Fingers or Trem?

I'm curious on who prefers finger based vibrato vs. using their trem to do vibrato?

As a hardtail player, its weird for me to do anything besides fingers for vibrato.

Re: Vibrato: Fingers or Trem?

I far and away prefer using finger vibrato. I don't know why though, I suppose it's just that everyone has a different style.

Re: Vibrato: Fingers or Trem?

I don't really use the trem for vibrato, more often I'll use it for self-indulgent whammy stunts

Finger vibrato is what gets the guitar face going, but there's a place for both.

All I'm going to say is that there's something to be said for good fingering skills...

Finger vibrato, without a doubt.

Re: Vibrato: Fingers or Trem?

Fingers! I think my vibrato is probably my strongest area of my playing to be honest.

Whammys are terrible for me because I can quite happily sit there for hours on end doing stupid squealing divebombs, fluttering the trem, etc. A guilty pleasure now and again but the exact same reason why I love the PGMs (and now LPs) so much, I spend more time playing it than fannying about making squeaky (but cool) noises

Re: Vibrato: Fingers or Trem?

I had to vote "other" since there was no option for "both"

I think both have equal merrit & both have thier place.

Olie is on the right page, I'd say. Depends what you wanna do. I don't think whammy vibrato should ever replace finger vibrato. I voted "other" because we weren't given the "both" option, same as 540s.

Re: Vibrato: Fingers or Trem?

I voted finger vibrato.

There is nothing that brings a piece of music to life more than an amazing vibrato technique...I've never really been a fan of trems for vibrato, only ever used it for the odd flutter etc.

dont know why I have a trem tbh lol

Re: Vibrato: Fingers or Trem?

Fingers definitely, the trem has its uses though, I use the trem to mostly sustain notes. I like using it after playing a sweep with a tap on the end, Tony Macalpine style.

Re: Vibrato: Fingers or Trem?

Finger vibrato is a must, but its cool to use the whammy bar while playing chords (anyone that can do a vibrato on three strings at once with their fingers is superhuman).
