im definatly with all the people that think people should pick up a real guitar and not to waste there time on a peice on plastic...its pointless gets you nowhere. i know people which play the game, if they spent as much time on real guitar would be amazingly good...... its a total waste.

Re: What do you think about the Guitar Hero game?

I have only played guitar hero once and all I could think about it while I was playing is how much more fun it would be to play a real guitar along with the music. This game appeals to people who have no real ambitions of actually learning or becoming better at guitar, which is fine, after all it's just entertainment like all other video games. But if you're trying to better yourself then this game (toy) is a waste.

Haven't read the whole thread, but I would love for a Roland or MIDI version to come out so you can really play guitar while playing the game.

Guitar hero is a lot of fun i have to admit. Sometimes it's nice to just kick back and play "Through the fire and flames" without breaking a sweat

Re: What do you think about the Guitar Hero game?

I have GH2 and GH3 for the PS2. I think they're pretty damn good fun (for being games). Getting

GH2 last year was part of what inspired me to finally pick up a REAL guitar and start playing. As a former music student in my youth (piano and trumpet), it was always in the back of my mind to take up guitar some day. I just never got around to it.

When I got far enough into playing GH2 though I finally thought to myself "wait-a-minute, why am I spending all this time on a bloody game when I could spend time learning the real thing?!". LOL

I don't care for it. But , it's getting the younger generation interested in classic rock music instead of a lot of the crap that's out these days.

Re: What do you think about the Guitar Hero game?

the game has been a great way to introduce my 6 year old to tons of great music - the two player mode is a blast, and he can finish songs on easy why I plastic shred on expert -

really serves a lot of different purposes -

Re: What do you think about the Guitar Hero game?

Guitar hero is fun for larger, group settings. Great for parties, or for occasional fun. Then again I'm not much of a gamer.

I just hate when people are like, "oh, I can play xxx song on expert in guitar hero!" My common response to that these days is "Really? Funny, because I can play xxx song on guitar." I mean, if these people spent half as much time playing actual guitar rather than guitar hero, they'd probably be halfway decent at guitar.

The other thing that pisses me off about this game is that it makes good songs overplayed. Three years ago, I was the only kid in a twenty mile radius that knew the song "YYZ." Now everyone's like, "YYZ! YEAH!" which ticks me off. One of my favorite bands is Interpol, and my favorite song by them (Obstacle 1) will be in the next guitar hero, so I'm kinda anticipating it to be overplayed, which sucks because it's one of my favorite songs.

And on a side note does playing the guitar well have anything to do with Guitar Hero skills? I've played twice, and both times I've played on hard. I got 92% on Cliffs of Dover, and 94% on YYZ.

Re: What do you think about the Guitar Hero game?

I see it like this: It is a big tool in showing younger people and the musically inexperienced how much great rock and metal is out there (not to ention blues). And at the same time it makes that music and new rock/,etal popular. You wouldn't have hlf the fun playing "Hip hop DJ hero," that's for sure.

Re: What do you think about the Guitar Hero game?

There wasn't really a proper choice for an answer, as I had these kind of thoughts on my mind:" Cool! It can make kids want to learn the real thing and learn more about great bands/guitar players. Plus it's really good for guitar manufacturers, such as Ibanez!"

More beginner guitars sold -> more potential buyers for the higher end stuff in the future -> more money for the companies -> NEW JEMS!!!

It could've been "Drummer God - The Game", but lucky us, it's Guitar Hero! Now we're still allowed to perform (too) long solos etc.

Re: What do you think about the Guitar Hero game?

I'm a big fan of Guitar Hero's impact (I've only played it once). It really is reviving the popularity of guitar-oriented music. Several of my non-guitar playing friends now know of Steve Vai, Eric Johnson, Satch, etc. all because of this game. Granted, I do think some people take it a little too seriously and could use that time to play the real deal, but I appreciate what it's doing for guitar interest.

Re: What do you think about the Guitar Hero game?

I've always played video games since I was a kid and I'm still a gamer.I don't play that much, but I like my 1st person shooters like Call of Duty. I've been playing guitar/drums for 15 years and music is my main thing.

I'm flip-flop when it comes to liking the game. On one hand its cool to play with your non musician friends and beat them everytime, but then the more you play the more you see how wrong it is. like many said if you spent as much time trying to beat Through the fire and flames on expert as try to learn a song, or get more familiar with modes or chords you would be a good player.

The moment for me was when my friend's little brother asked me to come over and beat Jordan by BucketHead on expert for him. I was getting at leat 90% on hard, so I thought I'd be able to do this no prob. Well on my 2nd day of trying to get the solo perfect, slowing it down, trying again and again, I stopped and thought to myself WTF am I doing?! I haven't played it in about about a year.

I think that episode of South Park sums it up pretty good. If you haven't seen it, you need to watch it.
