Re: What do you think about the Guitar Hero game?

Anybody else remember Mario Party? Remember that one mini-game where the conductor put up symbols of buttons on your controller and you had to push them at the right time?

Guitar Hero is a Mario Party Mini game that cost a whole hell of a lot more than Mario party did/does.

I a couple of thoughts on Guitar Hero:

1. Being a guitar teacher I hate it. With a passion. "Dude, what do you mean you don't play guitar hero?" On the other hand I've had more than a handful of students who say Guitar Hero is why they picked up the axe so I won't punch a gift horse in the mouth.

2. Guitar Hero is no different from any other simulation game. Be it a fighter plane game or Sports game. If you enjoy playing it that's great. Nobody tells people who play NHL 09 that they are wasting their time and to go practice hockey. Of course I've never seen somebody who played a sports game act like they were actually good at any given sport because of it. I don't know what it is about Guitar Hero but it seems to make people ****ier than if they actually played guitar for real. It's creating a bunch of little Malmsteens. Except they can't actually do anything...

3. I don't buy the exposures kids to new music BS. Music has been available for free for over a decade now. Everybody I know has a least one friend who is willing to try random new stuff. And then tell his friends about it. Plus with that whole internet thing you can easily meet new people who can tell you about new/different/the same kind but more or better music a hell of a lot easier than you could even 15 years ago. Pink Floyd and Zepplin were popular far before Guitar Hero came around.

I personal think guitar hero is a waste of time but pretty much every past time is. That is why they are called past times. If somebody has fun doing it good for them. I just wish they would stop pretending it meant something.

Lol at little Malmsteens, personally I hate everyone when they talk about guitar hero, or that rock band thing, and I mean when you talk about it like you're a pro my respect for you drops instantly, I've briefly played the new one with drums and the songs were horrible, just disgusting, I mean The Middle by Jimmy Eat World!? THAT is a classic!? I have a couple of friends that have gotten into guitar after guitar hero, one had an upbringing with guitar and has branched away from "Just Learned the intro to One" and plays acoustic, the other is just not musically inclined, and that's the main thing that annoys me about guitar hero, when it brings people to guitar who just try to play the songs they hear on it and don't learn theory or or take lessons ( I have no problems with self taught people) and grab an epiphone and save up for a GIBSON, no surprises there.

On the other hand for those who go onto listening to more great music, good for them.

Re: What do you think about the Guitar Hero game?

Personally I like it.

My best mate has it (he can also play guitar) and we occasionally sink a few beers and have a go. He got GH3 and I played that for the first time last week. I can actually play most of those songs on guitar anyway, and it was fun to try and see how good I was. Unlike guitar playing the more beer I drank the better I got. I did find it infuriating that I wasn't immediately fantastic and had to adapt to the game, but it was fine.

I think that most of us would agree with Willie Nelson that making music with your friends is pretty good fun. This is just a way to share the joy of "playing" music with people who can't play instruments, or in my case someone who isn't usually that good at computer games.

Re: What do you think about the Guitar Hero game?

My theory is that people who play guitar in general suck at guitar hero, as pushing plastic buttons and moving a switch up and down is so alien it's untrue. Noone plays riffs chromatically across one string...

I actually think I hate this game

I've never played it, no interest in playing it. If you want to hear new music, then go to Pandora.com

Re: What do you think about the Guitar Hero game?

I'm sorry if this rubs anyone the wrong way but I can describe that game in only one way:

Evil

My mates all take the p*iss out of me not wanting to play it, and get really big headed about playing some "amazing" song on expert level, even though they couldn't tell a bridge from a nut (hehe, like a*se from elbow, which in some cases is true too). It's just because I've found in the past, my fingers want to do what they would on a real guitar, which makes playing songs I know even harder.

guitar hero game and playing real guitar has totaly nothing in common.ok so someone can play through the fire n flames on expert, this might take a few months of practice.ok now go and play it on real guitar see how long it takes to learn.nuff said

Exactly, playing chromatic note sequences feels wrong wrong wrong. Not moving up and down the neck also feels wrong. I do have a theory that most guitarists/bassists are more rubbish at this game than people who can play.

Plus, i prefer being able actually play a guitar...

If you play Who songs in Guitar Hero, are you allowed to smash the controller at the end of the song?

Re: What do you think about the Guitar Hero game?

There's only one thing that ****s me about that game....

People have to sit, practice, and learn to beat some of the "levels" (songs).

IMO, if you have to do that, why not learn real guitar?

I have a friend that use to vehemently argue with me about the game being "just a game" it's not mean to be real, and that it lets him pretend to be a rockstar. I sat him down infront of my PC, turned on my podxt pro, put on a Metallica MP3, selected one of my matching tones and played along right infront of him. I said, *THAT* is how you pretend to be a rockstar.

He now has a real guitar.

I found it relatively easy after a while, and started to get quite good.

To be fair, I do suck on the guitar though.

You point has been verified sir!
