Re: Whats for dinner?

If he or she is excellent, I will tip 20%. If they are pretty good, I will tip 15%, if they are average, then 10%, if they are bad (As in, not doing their job at all or they have a smart-ass attitude), I tip 0-5%.

Now obviously if a meal is $10, I'm not going to just tip $2 if they are worthy of a 20% tip. Usually my minimum is around $5 (once again, unless they don't they their job). I hate when people tip in quarters. Don't be a cheap scape

Re: Whats for dinner?

Being that Mrs Cid was imported from Mexico, Im not allowed to take her to Mexican resurants. She's militant about the food, so a steakhouse is always a safe bet. As for tipping, I was a bartender for 5 years and mom was a waitress for along time so I always over tip.

Re: Whats for dinner?

Yeah, I just ate at my favorite, truly authentic Mexican restaurant. The guys who started it are from Mexico and are completely against the "American" version of Mexican food. They specialize in "tortas," a sandwich that is very popular in Mexico. http://delimexicana.com/about

They always go into a huge speech whenever an unknowing customer comes in and asks for a hard shell taco, or a burrito, or cheese dip.

Steakhouse is always a good choice. My wife has been in the bar industry for many, many, years, so like Cid , we tip way over what is normal.

Re: Whats for dinner?

My mother-in-law has actually gotten into arguements with the people that run one Mexican resturant here. The town I live in is heavily Mexican I'd guess around 60%-70%, you can't swing a dead cat without hitting someone who has a Michoacan sticker on their rear window, yet most of the Mexican food is Americanized.

I'm at El Rodeo right now. It's predictably "good". The chips are warm.

Re: Whats for dinner?

Seafood or steakhouse. Since just about every girl I've dated was either a waitress or bartender, I probably heavily overtip.

I reward nice, pleasant, hard working waitresses. The key to a big tip from me is, don't let my coffee cup go empty. Waitresses that are slow, lazy, inatentive get little to nothing.

I also worked tables during my high school years. I tip fairly, but based upon service.

20% for above average
15% for average
10% for slow or lazy

I don't penalize the wait staff if the kitchen is at fault for a bad meal. On occasions when I receive truly excellent service, I've been known to tip 25%.
