I'd like to propose a "No More Greenday Pictures" Jemsite law.

Re: Where is your guitar slung?

Okay....a little side-track here. When you guys are playing sitting down, do you have the guitar on your right leg or left leg. I always used to do right leg as it seemed the way people did it, but read somewhere that on the left leg is better for adjusting to playing standing up??? I've kinda got comfortable with that now.

BTW....i too am in the "slightly higher than looks cool but can't play with it lower" band. My first guitar hero was Jimmy Page so i loved the "round the knees" look But.....i can't do it

I think the "cool" look depends on the guitar too. I mean..a Les Paul looks right down there, but an Ibanez doesn't!!

Jemsite law passed.

I also suggest we start a council for voting on and passing Jemsite laws.
We can set up our own 3 branch Jemsite government.

Glenn would be the Executive
Mods the Judicial
and the council the Legislative

High.

You try playing 3 note per string Hirajoshi licks with a guitar thats even waist height. Trust me, not fun.

Re: Where is your guitar slung?

Hahahah I was just posting that picture of Green Day to show how ridiculously low he wears his axe - definitely not as a tribute. Maybe I was one of the few people signed up to this forum that was a teenager when Green Day released Dookie. Don't tell me that none of you guys listened to "trendy" bands when you were teenagers - I'd know you were lying. But I'll post a warning to try and stop people from scrolling up and seeing the picture if they start reading this thread from the end - - -

"Whatever you do - DO NOT SCROLL UP - above is a picture of the band GREEN DAY - a band which for which pictures have been banned by several Jemsite members. I repeat - DO NOT SCROLL UP. Thank you for your time"

Re: Where is your guitar slung?

Hey I wonder if there's a calculation you can do - where the lowest comfortable guitar height can be calculated, given your height, arm length and shoulder width. Hmmmmmm

Re: Where is your guitar slung?

And hey - by passing laws like "no more Green Day pics" you might actually be stabbing yourself in the foot. Maybe the one rabid Green Day fan will change his profile picture to one of Green Day and it will show up on every post he/she makes. Damn lawbreakers. Good for nothing kids.

Re: Where is your guitar slung?

I've been experimenting with this as I've had my guitar at the same height for the last decade! Higher up than I normally play, and left hand technique is most definitely easier, but if I play a riff for any length of time my right arm gets completely knackered (need to find a suitable right hand exercise )
Lower, picking becomes progressively more comfortable but legato etc harder.

I guess I need to play with my guitar vertical!

Re: Where is your guitar slung?

Playing vertical might not be such a bad idea - some guitar players have been known to do it . . .

Re: Where is your guitar slung?

Around the midsection for me, that way my fretting arm is not under huge amounts of stress because of how low the guitar is, nor is my picking arm at too tight an angle...to the point of where it hurts to have my arm in a static position.

I normally angle the head upwards anyway, having said that I think loads and loads of people do that.
