As high as my cliplocks can go! I look terrible, but I'll do anything I can to improve my sound

I pretty much bring my guitar to where when i play it, my arm is somewhat parallel to the ground. maybe higher. so that my arm is ascending to the ground, if that makes sense. I wanna be able to play good.

I hold my guitar almost high enough to pass as a shot gun!

I think he means when his forearm is parallel to the ground. But it'd be a lucky guess if I'm right.

I love how his arm is "ascending to the ground." Priceless.

Thats awesome - what'd be even better is if you had a shotgun inlay on your fretboard, that continued into the body of the guitar. You could aim it at people when you're playing solos!

Check out Frank Gambale's guitar height on his "Monster licks and Speed picking" video. But I guess he's got enough technique to not need to look cool!

Could it be that since the weight of the guitar is not resting on my shoulders but rather on my leg, my arm has less strain?

Comments?

Jimmy
I have the same experience when I sit down to play. Just like you said; with the weight not resting on one's shoulder, causing less strain I guess.

I, for one, used to play Greenday's music when I was like 14-15 or so. But not because it was trendy, but because I actually liked the songs (back then).

Re: Where is your guitar slung?

Around my midsection.

I tend to go through periods where i like it higher, but my playing just isnt as loose when its up by my neck. A bit lower and i feel more comfortable, and its easier to abuse the trem.

I didnt really to popular music in my teens (Im only 22 now). It was the whole nu-metal thing at the time, and i hated it. I was (and still am) really into Iron Maiden, but i used to like the powermetal bands like Gamma Ray, Iced Earth. I found out about Dream Theater when i was 16 and that lead me into other stuff like Vai, Satch ect.

I do have the odd popular album (ive got a fair few Stereophonics anc Catatonia albums) but i never really followed what was going on.

Re: Where is your guitar slung?

I wear mine quite high, almost Petrucci-like if I had to compare it to a famous player. I think it looks cooler lower, ala Slash, Zakk Wylde, or Hetfield. But when I do that my technique always suffers. So I like mine quite high up.

On me back on the way to my guitar lessons. It is a good place for it; in the gig bag.
