Re: Which is the best Dream Theater album

I don't know about "best" but my favorite is Scenes from a Memory.

But yeah, it's hard. Depending on what day of the week you ask me, it could be Images & Words or 6DoIT (second disc).

What benchmarks are you using to determine the performance of each album?

I chose Images and Words. Scenes From a Memory was great, but it just didn't have that magic touch that Images and Words had.

Scenes from a memory.
Whole album is actually one song. the idea of telling a story is brilliant.
Also, IMHO amazing songs, better than Images and words. everybody sounds very very matured in this album.

Of these two, I&W, as I like a singer who can reach the high notes...

Come on, he's a good singer, but can't sing the old stuff anymore. LaCheese is a hasbeen.

I agree with this to an extent, but I&W just sounded more playful and more "fun" to my ears.

Re: Which is the best Dream Theater album

Images and words had some very addicting choruses. I can't stop singing take the time. Pull me under was great and i love wait for sleep. But i believe they are tighter and some what more "matured" on scenes from a memory.

Scenes From a Memory is probably my all time favourite album so I think it's a pretty straight-forward answer for me!

Re: Which is the best Dream Theater album

The story thing from "Scenes" is alright, but the story is kinda hackneyed.

I love the sound of I&W - it's just the sound of my favorite era... And it's very uplifting, which is one reason I listen to music in the first place.

Awake is cool, but I never got into the D-tuned thing.

Re: Which is the best Dream Theater album

IMHO, this is the rank:
1st AWAKE
2nd SFAM
3rd Live at the Marquee
4th 6DOIT CD 2
5th I&W
