play 'so what' by Metallica (not written by metallica but they play it at basically all of their shows).

Lol, do you want to get him expelled?

I'd go with Voodoo chile, cos it's one of my favourite Jimi tracks, and it's very jammable...

How old is 8th grade? I'm 16 and in college, probably the best guitarist here, and i can only play for the love of God with some mistakes! On the other hand, people would know metallica more, and it wouldn't be all new and scary to them...

For a school talent show I'd go with spacenukes suggestion, "enter sandman" will do nicely.

I'd go with Master of Puppets. It's not that hard, a lot of people know it (maybe not as many as Sandman, but certainly enough), it sounds impressive, and you can crank the energy through the roof.

Just play something really heavy, really energetic, and really loud, with a fast impressive solo and they'll all enjoy it. "Enter Sandman"'s a good one, but really any decent Metallica song. Zakk Wylde's good too.
