Which wood would you like for a RG7?
I'm deciding on types of wood to use to make my
custom prestige 7 string
If I decide to sell it on Jemsite in the future, I would like to know what you all like to have. I'm not only looking at majority. I'll look at who is voting to see who would likely buy it.
I'm not making out of basswood. It is an okay wood, but if I am doing a project, I want it to be worth it.
Choices are:
Alder
Mahogany
Swamp Ash
Pauduck
Walnut
If this works out, I'll be making polls of what pickups, layout, color, figured top, etc. How cool is that?
The poll closes in a week.
It's your choice of what I will make!
I'm voting mahogany.

I went alder, but I am not familiar with the tones of the other woods you have listed.

I'm fine with alder. It's cheaper than the others

Swamp Ash definitely, but I'd also be happy with walnut, mahogany, and basswood. I like basswood personally. Koa would be a good choice as well. Padauk sounds a lot like maple, and that I can do without. I'm not a fan of alder 7's to be honest, unless they have a maple cap or something.

Mahogany and its relative woods are my first choice for an all purpose 7. (Especially with a maple top of 1/4 in. or greater)
Swamp Ash would be my second choice for a niche 7. (Extreme clarity of individual notes)

I'm with eelblack2.
Mahogany is excellent. Probably one of the best guitar woods. Second it would be swamp ash.
On a side note, my Caparison is an all
mahogany body
, but it is very, very light, believe it or not, and it has a tremendously distinctive tone. Very, very different from the other mahogany based guitar that I own. I was extremely surprised.
I've played a swamp ash PRS and swamp ash Gibson, and that's a pretty spanking tone, as well.

Walnut looks great with maple. My current JPMT hardtail project is walnut/maple/walnut neck, walnut back, maple top.

I'd like something with a tight and crisp lowend... Alder.

I was going to snap at you, '05. Then I realised you're talking about 7-stringers. And that 7-stringers are indeed in need of more colours. Still, I'd prefer more models, but more colours are also needed.

Not yet. I have glued the neck, sides, and fretboard together but they aren't quite presentable.
