Who do U like better? Satriani or Eric Johnson?
I've always been a Satch fan and I love everything he has done.
I've never cared for
Eric Johnson
until later on.
Now, Eric Johnson has become my main influence as far as technique.
His songs are not as great but his solos are extremely complex to learn.
I've learned alot of his stuff from books and videos and the challenge of that,
makes me like Eric Johnson more but however, Satch has better songs!
Satch is more me but Eric Johnson's technique and knowledge is something
im incorporating in my style..
What do you think-

Definitely Johnson.
His tone is incredible, fluid player, versatile, creative.
Venus Isle is one of my favorite CDs

Satriani is the first (and last?) instrumental rock guy I really got into - I only heard of EJ when I bought the G3 album. To answer the question though, I hardly listen to any of Satch albums, while "Ah Via Musicom" still gets very frequent rotation...

EJ is awesome wif a alot of sensitivity in his songs, definitely a unique guy in guitar virtusosity.
But I still prefer Satch, I find him more versatile and his songs just groove baby!! His phrasing is impecable!!

Anybody get a chance to check out Eric Johnson's "Alien Love Child-Live and Beyond"
CD? It's Amazing.

Judging from your user name, I could agree with you as far as tone and
Ah Via Musicom is more my favorite CD but, SRV, Manhattan, and
Camel's Night Out off Venus Isle are just awesome!

EJ for me. Satch didn't have as much of an impact on me. Manhattan...awesome song.

Re: Who do U like better? Satriani or Eric Johnson?
Johnson really kicks that solo in Manhatten. I'd like to see what other pros come up with for that song, around those
chord progressions
. Johnson makes it flow.

Re: Who do U like better? Satriani or Eric Johnson?
What makes that song so hard to play is the fact that Eric plays it in the key of
E b rather than E. That song is filled with alot of incredible technique.
The whole song flows. It's probably my favorite although "Righteous" is fun to play
as well as "Cliffs Of Dover". It's hard to nail Manhattan. Only Eric Johnson can play it!
