I love guitar for as many of those reasons as I can get! Of course, impressing the girls with it seems rather difficult unless you're in a band that plays music that girls would be interested in. So mostly I guess that I play for myself and my own amusement as well as a creative outlet.

Because my dad showed me a video of the expo '92 'Guitar Legends' show in Seville, after seing that I had to have lessons. Hell I even used to run around the playground making guitar noises. But nowadays i'd put it down to the need for creativity, expression and some form of escapism. I can really lose myself and forget everything when i play guitar, and i couldn't live without it.

As for girls, i'd agree with you GunKungFu. I think its a shambles that most girls would rather see a guy get on stage and talk over a backing track, whilst waving his arms around in the air agressively and wearing a tacky piece of chrome around his neck, before hopping into his 'Benz complete with rims the size of small planets.

aargh which one to tick?!?!? i play cos i always looked to guitarists as gods when i was super young, and found i caught on quick so i kinda inspire myself in a weird way! and the older i get the more obsessed i get, that plus at parties everyone is your friend after uve picked up the guitar and shredded a bit!!

Nothin to do with being cool or getting girls at all. I play because I love to play and I love to write / create music. That's why I play. I think if your sole reason for playing is to be cool or to get girls then you are playing for all the WRONG reasons. You'll prolly never really be any good and you'll prolly end up giving it up once you find out that your really NOT cool no matter what you do and the girls aint happening. Sorry, but that is simply the WRONG reason to be playing an instrument lads....IMHO

As I said, I took it up to express my musical talent (or so I think). Girls are just a plus!
