Re: Worst Customer Service

Over here in the uk we have a company called NTL. They provide us with TV, phone and internet. To be fair their internet is excellent BUT everything else is crap. We refuse to up grade to digital TV because on our ancient anolgue (how the hell is that spelt?) at least provides us with a singal 100% of the time. Everyone I know that has (or had) NTL digital complains about how they keep getting cut off sometimes for hours on end. The NTL engineer who installed it for us even said you'd be better off with sky!
Their phone is good but the problem comes if you have a problem. Something happened with our phone and it took them 9 days to get out to us! Yet they can send someone out next day for you internet. I think phone if more important.
Still not as bad as Bulldog internet who have had something like a 33% complaints rate from thier customers.

Re: Worst Customer Service

Well I have a big stoy with COX, it took them 3x my house, and they rewired sections of this cable, and it would last 1-2 weeks then I would have Digital Noise or BOXING as they called it.. 4 time, brought a new box, 5x I told them to rewire my house again... and guess what its now fixed, But it was like pulling teeth, with them... And yes cable still goes out once a month, and Indemand, is 75% out every sunday for some reason or only when I decide to watch something...

Re: Worst Customer Service

OMG. How can you guys NOT put gov't run facilities such as DMV, or courthouses on the list?

People who work there are fat, fugly, and 99.9% of the time have an attitude.

Re: Worst Customer Service

DMV was overhauled in NJ and operates fantastic now. I don't much care what someone serving me looks like as long as they're efficient and get the job done ... glen

Re: Worst Customer Service

DMV in VA is probably the worst.

I just bought a car a few months ago.

If the dealer overnights your paperwork, then you will get processed by the time your 30 day tags expire.

If the dealer standard mails it, it can take three to six months.

So I asked the lady "So you're telling me, that if the dealer mails the paperwork standard, I'm stuck without getting tags for 3 to 6 months?" and she said "Yup. We're backlogged and overworked and we just can't do it right now."

"So, I've got a car that can either sit in my driveway, or be illegally driven for 5 months?"

"Yup"

That's total bs. And she acted like it was my fault that I didn't know the typical mailing procedures of car dealerships, and told me that I should have done my research... wtfe...

Re: Worst Customer Service

I have to report that i have not had a problem with ANY of those services. I've avoided what i would consider to be the worst service (when i lived in the UK at least) by using a mobile telephone exclusively. I haven't had a land line in 6 years and would never go back to one. Total waste of money and often a royal pain in the rear.
Cable flickers occassionally during a typhoon but doesn't even flinch through an earthquake. And the internet is awesome. Never had a problem and it is very quick indeed.

HOWEVER, somebody here mentioned earlier thet DMV/DVLA. I just had to renew my Japanese driving license. Here you have to do it at your local police station. Japanese police are notoriously racist and when i went in to pick up the forms necassary to complete said process, the police man i was dealing with as good as told me get lost in his gutter level japanese. I speak/read more than enough (standard) japanese for this process to go smoothly but he flat refused to co-operate, and owing to his raised voice our 'discussion' had already aroused a lot of interest within the building. Rather than create a scene i left the building without the forms and with a red face.

I returned to the police station yesterday with a fairly senior City Hall official (i work there) and quelle surprise the process went incredibly smoothly.

This pissed me off so much i just felt the need to rant. So my vote for worst customer service (for a gaijin) goes to the police here in Japan.

I agree this can be a tedious undertaking, but I only deal with them once every year to renew tags or once every fours years to renew my license.

We deal with utility companies every time we turn on a light, make a phone call or visit the jemsite forum.

Anything Relating to the Government, even my city's fireman. It took them almost 30 minutes to get to my burning building. Oh God, the courthouse, those people are so slow

Re: Worst Customer Service

Wow, I can't believe that telephone service has "won" the poll. I wonder if people are voting based on cellular (in which case I may understand) or "old fashioned" telephone service?

Re: Worst Customer Service

Time Warner is #1 on my all time list. SBC is probably #2. The electric company is usually terrible as well.

Any company that has a monopoly on an industry generally doesn't care about their customers. Somehow phone companies still think they are part of this group, even though more and more folks are ditching them for cell phones and even VoIP.
