Would you buy a brightly coloured Ibanez?

Simple enough question. Would you buy, say, a Desert Yellow/Road Flare Red/Lazer Blue/Shocking Pink Ibanez RG? I'm talking brand new, not a second hand one from an auction site. Let's imagine that Ibanez reintroduced the colours from the days when the original Jems and RG550's were released.

No,they should be left in the 80s where they belong.Things move on and fasions change. The Jem has evolved very well over the last two decades, and the current line up,though looking sparse at the moment, has two very classy looking finishs to them.

Re: Would you buy a brightly coloured Ibanez?

OK, to NormalPerson and Morris,etc...

Fashions run in cycles, which means stuff that was once cool has a damn good chance it'll be cool again in the future. If you want to argue that those colours belong in the 80's, so does black/navy/silver belong in the late 90's/early 2000's. So where do you go from here? what other colours could you paint a guitar? This is where fashions evolve.

When there is nowhere left to take something, there has to be a change in direction and this is as good a change as any.

Re: Would you buy a brightly coloured Ibanez?

And another thing...

In the 80's it was cool to wear ripped denim and a rock T-shirt. You look outside your window, and if you are lucky enough to not live in an area full of chav-scum, you'll see young guys wearing ripped denim and a rock T-shirt, it's fashionable again. Hell, that's what I'M wearing right NOW. Plus, people will pay big money for this style because it IS in fashion again, something I'm guilty of because I damn well like the style.

You go into any decent clothes shop now and try and buy a pair of jeans that aren't ripped or worn down in any way, it isn't happening unless you are REALLY trying to not.

Re: Would you buy a brightly coloured Ibanez?

I'd want it to be on a more interesting guitar!!!

I think that Ibanez should revamp their colour pallette, BUT... I think it needs to go a step further.

I'd like them to understand that things like colour matched head stocks are part of the overall effect particularly on brightly coloured models. Maybe reintroduce the clear pickguard as per the RG770DX and the JEM77FP to the higher level RGs, colour matched inlays and pickups were fun too.

The Yellow FGM100 and the RG770DX are great examples of the effects that can be acheived. I'm bored with the 100% association between "top of the line" and "figured maple"

A reverse headstock here and their wouldn't go amiss either

Re: Would you buy a brightly coloured Ibanez?

Yeah, good point.

Quite frankly, I'm getting sick of seeing vines on fretboards. Don't get me wrong, I do like them but to me they're being done to death.

What's wrong with throwing some pyramids on there (for 6-strings)? Coloured sharktooths?

Re: Would you buy a brightly coloured Ibanez?

Nope, I didn't want pink, yellow, or green in the 80s and I have no use for it now. If Ibanez were to rerelease said colors (colours, for our friends across the pond), would the guitar come with hairspray and leopard print spandex?

Re: Would you buy a brightly coloured Ibanez?

Ibanez risk going down the Fender road by having only bland colours and natural finishes. Fender lately though have started to introduce some nice colours. I'd personally never buy a natural finish guitar, once youve seen a few youve seen em all. I think its time the companies started listening to what consumers want, rather than being so stubborn.

Yes,evolve and not repeat.Heaven forbid that spandex clad grown men with big hair held up with 3 tonne of cosack hair spray should ever be "cool" again. Dont get me wrong, when thing are "in" they are great, and the 80s was fantastic, and yes I was there, but things run their course. When Nivarna became big in 91 they gave the rock industry a good kick in the poodle haired arse.At the time it did piss me off. This caused Ibanez to drop the none selling guitars and introduce new lines to deal with this problem, hence the BSB,DBK and the UV777PBK.Think of it like this, would the BSB have sold in 1986? No! Nor did the UV in 1995. Ibanez may reintroduce bright colours when the time is right, watch MTV and see for yourself.Ibanez now sell's a lot more than Jem,UV and RG guitars, and judging by the reduced size of the Steve Vai and Joe Satriarni range its because there's more money to be had elsewhere. And thats what its all about, money.Anyway must go,my spadex pants are biting.
