Re: Would you but an RG8?

An RG8 would be interesting, though I'm pretty sceptical of just how much practical use I'd get out of the 8th string. That said, it would be a pretty cool toy to have for general messing around with, and it's not like anyone would be forced to use the low string if they didn't want to...

If they had a high and a low end model, like the RG7321, then I'd definitely try out a cheap low end one at some point, to test the waters. I doubt I'd buy a really expensive one, especially if it cost more than an equivalent 7 or 6 stringer.

Unless they come loaded with high-end 8-string pickups like the Lundgren M8's or similiar, I'll leave them be.

Re: Would you but an RG8?

I said no, i played a universe once or twice and thought it was confusing and i never used the extra string properly. I would not buy an RG8 unless it was VERY cheap. and seeing as no decent guitar will ever be VERY cheap, even if it was i wouldn't buy it cos then it would probably not be any good.

Re: Would you but an RG8?

I would think an 8 string would just bring more Korns and Limp Bizkits instead of more people actually suing it to do more than chug on the low strings.
I guess some guitar players are on a never ending search for the brown note.

Re: Would you but an RG8?

Im guessing here, but I think most people who play a 7 more often than 6 for the possibilities it creates (not necessarily the chug chug factor), would go for an 8 as long as its reasonably affordable, and VERY playable. It took me a few years and two different attempts (A UV green dot back in the old days when they were new - and more recently a JC7) to wrap my head around the idea of :

1. Extend the chords, scales, and arpeggios I already knew to accomodate the extra low string. (Often with a 5th in the bass or as the starting scale tone.)

2. Forget all of Number 1 when appropriate, and constuct new patterns based on the extra string so things that were previously impossible without massive position changes are now possible.

Just my thoughts
