Would you buy an RG8?

Tak himself said there will be one very soon. Would you get one?

Re: Would you but an RG8?

Not at all, for several reasons. One is that I have absolutely no use for notes below that low B on a 7-string. Second is that there are close to no replacement pickups available (that I'm aware of). If the model will be Korean or Indonesian, I'd be even further discouraged from buying one.

On the other hand, it's great to see Ibanez exploring new areas.

Don't worry about it, I don't think many people will care...

Definitely. Regardless of how it is factory string I would restring it BEADGBEA and proceed to go nutz with the arpeggio, scale, and chord possibilities.

i would like one just to mess around with. before i got my UV, i said to myself, "ah, i'll never get an eight string. even if they did make one, it'd be pointless." now i am more open to the idea, and i would just have to play one to find out. but man, that neck woudl be a monster!

I voted yes, I would BUY an RG8. Would be cool if it were priced like the 7620 was when it first debuted, 1,299+, I don't think i'd pay more....

Re: Would you but an RG8?

I wouldn't because I'd have no use for it.

I remember reading something that Steve Vai said about an eight string. He said that a friend of him once had an eight string, so he tried it. But he thought that that was just too much strings on a guitar.

By the way, who's Tak?

Kind regards,
Myst and rain

Re: Would you but an RG8?

If Ibanez doesn't overcharge for it, hell yeah. I do hope that other companies will join the fray, though. In my opinion, if your hands are big enough and fingers long enough and therefore not an impediment, the more notes available, the better. Like I said in another thread, people on pianosite.com probably aren't arguing over whether or not extended range is a good or bad thing.

As far as the concern over the lack of replacement picukps, well that's how it was in the beginning with 7's. Hell, that's practically how it still is with 7's lol. So far people have been using EMG's, Lundgrens, custom Duncans, and various other creative solutions, so once Dimarzio gets on board, it won't be that bad.
