Re: You music preference

For playing, metal... Metallica, Iced Earth, etc. For listening..., lately older stuff, The Doors, Cream, etc.

Out of a sort of morbid curiousity, I've been tuning in to the local hip-hop station lately. (Partly also due to the fact that we have NO hard rock station AT ALL in Houston -- 4th largest city in the U.S. -- as of a few days ago since 103.7 KOIL, (which picked up the recently dropped ball of KLOL, 30-year hard rock veterans which switched to Tejano,) switched to something called "the JACK." which seems to be a weird mix, but mainly sort of '80s, '90s pop. Anyway this has led me to using the dreaded "seek" button on my radio, and out of morbid curiousity I sometimes stop on the hip-hop station. Part of what makes me stop is to listen to the rythyms -- I did write my own drum machine software afterall, so I have some interest in that -- I think it's the lyrics, and the sort of, "hey, we just discovered this thing called me... me... melo dee... where you use different 'notes'..." vibe you get from these hip hop songs. Something like watching a train wreck. And the "lyrics".... wow. "in da club." Everything happens "in da club" apparently in hip-hop. Everything's about cars and ... well there's this one where the guy talks about being "king of the parking lot." Some prestige, that, I imagine. Ok... I've wandered off topic. I'll shut up now.

Hair/ Glam Metal - I feel that falls under the Hard Rock category, though some may disagree.

Listen to Brad Paisley or some of those country super-pickers (even in bluegrass) and you might like it - they entirely shred!

I have trouble with the country stuff being force-fed us by the record companies (and the rock, and the pop, etc.), but if you dig a bit there's some cool stuff in the country world.

I like some metal, don't like some other. I like the Holdsworth/Ponty era fusion stuff. And of course, Vai. I can listen to almost anything that's done well, but I don't like rap, hip-hop, or the like. I've even found myself listening to electronic dance music!
