1993 7VWH with Edge Pro Tremolo (versus 2006)
I recently picked up my third Ibanez Jem 7VWH... this one is a 1993 that came with a brand new
Edge Pro
tremolo
installed/upgraded. I thought I'd try to share some photos of the inside of the backplate, showing how the tremolo installation of the 1993 body compares to my other, newer 2006 7VWH with the same trem.
Unfortunately, the newer trem on the '93 model does not have enough clearance to bend up more than about 1/2-1 tone before it binds inside. Is there a way to adjust the trem further back? If not I guess I will have to machine or grind the body back to allow for motion of the trem, but that's a pretty intense surgery on a 17 year old collector's guitar. At the same time, I have the original tremolo that fits fine except it is severly corroded.
Here's the gallery: <removed due to low post # count. If you want to see, goto combier dot net, then "archive", then "other" then "Ibanez Jem 1993, etc">
Any thoughts?

You're gonna have to replace the trem. I think in 1993, they were using the edge.

Re: 1993 7VWH with Edge Pro Tremolo (versus 2006)
I saw this auction when it was active. Being that the guy was in my area, I emailed him asking if I could come by and look at it. I was aware that the trem route was slightly different between newer and older models. While he answered my questions prior questions, when I asked to come by and see it (twice) he stopped responding altogether.

Re: 1993 7VWH with Edge Pro Tremolo (versus 2006)
If I were going to sell the guitar, I would probably get the right trem to keep it as it was supposed to be. But, I want to keep it and sell the 2006 7V. I think I like the Edge Pro (especially as it's brand new) in there.
Any ideas what having the route might cost by a luthier? Anybody ever done this? It only looks like 1/4" needs to come off.

Personally, I think you'd be better off with putting an Edge or LoPro Edge in there. Depending on what needs to be done, you may come off at around the same expense without any modifications done to the guitar. Also, you can sell the Edge Pro which should cover the majority of the expense for the proper bridge.

Re: 1993 7VWH with Edge Pro Tremolo (versus 2006)
Hmm.. That's a good point. I actually have the original Edge tremolo, but it's really corroded and not something I want to install in the guitar. I searched around the forum here, but I couldnt get a conclusive argument about what makes the Edge, Lo-Pro Edge, and Edge Pro tremolos different. I can see that the Edge pro has more mass on the block (better sustain?) than the original Edge.
What are the 3 tremolos worth, and where would I buy a new Lo-Pro or Edge in gold?

Check e ba y completed listings for what the Edge Pro typically goes for. As for a new Edge in gold, I'd contact ibanezrules.com first. If he doesn't have one, then you can order direclty from Hoshino USA in Bensalem, Pa.

Anything you buy from HUSA will be at full list price, not wise on things like trems [or anything else over $20].
They're always in stock.

Re: 1993 7VWH with Edge Pro Tremolo (versus 2006)
I had my '88 7RB routed for the Edge3 {post edit - sorry I meant Edge Pro}. I also had the bigger locking studs fitted. I was worried about its stability and if I dared even use the trem but I don't play it with any extremity. I love the 7RB and had already fitted a new pickguard with a better defined white stripe. It all worked as I hoped as my luthier found a template on the net.
Its waiting for its new pink Evo2 & Neck p/ups. The first batch I got were a very bad pigment but these ones are almost a perfect match. It needs them as the guitar just feedsback at any high volume.
The square neck pocket was distracting when I first got it as my hand was hitting into it fast and hard but not any more. Its a cool blues/funky guitar. The neck is narrow so I must be carefull but its a joy to have.

Re: 1993 7VWH with Edge Pro Tremolo (versus 2006)
Thats right Nuno. But the old tremolo just rattled and I consider playing is the object not waiting for a possible price increase on rarity. The strings were "quacking" on the frets too and was so bad until I got it levelled. I had only seen 2 of these for sale and I missed getting the 1st. This is the nicest I have seen since and I'm gonna play it
I paid £1250 and spent a further on it to the value of £1600 but to me its worth more to play and keep.
