I'd like to see a fixed-bridge chrome UV On the other hand, I may be tempted to actually buy a JEM now.

When You said Bad Horsie Jem I thought you were going to say they were incorperating a wah pedal into the Jem

That is exciting news, Though I'll have to wait a few years and get a used one.

I just can't believe that Steve would give up, which might possibly be, the biggest winter NAMM news 5 months ahead of time.
I think Ibanez would be majorly pissed.
But hey, I'll start saving up for a bad horsie, just in case.

Maybe by letting a little news slip, it builds the hype and gets people like me putting aside money ahead of time.(nickel and penny wraps anyone?)

Agreed, but this big of a news slip doesn't usually get published in a full interview in a magazine, does it?

No doubt the fixed bridge JEM will seriously rock.

Steve told me the same thing about the mirror one the same day as the abovementioned photo shoot He didn't mention the fixed bridge one though.

Come on. As exciting as it is, it's still just a guitar. It doesn't really qualify as big news.

Ditto.

Rear-routed, arched maple top, no pickguard. Fingers crossed.

Not holding my breath, however...

Ibanez is the best making modern guitars with tremelo but sorry, if I want a guitar with fixed bridge I'll always take my dear beauty:

Too heavy and the short scale just feels wrong but I wouldn't mind a glorified RG 621 with chunkier neck.

Blocking a normal trem will give you 99% of the FX Edge idea but I don't want to have to deal with locking saddles/nuts at all.

To elaborate on a few things discussed here...

I don't think 'mirrored front' and chroming (as per the Satch model's chrome process) will we the same. I've seen a few ChromeBoys (??) peel at the headstock, and I image that if the mirrored Jem has a black back and sides, then the mirror finish will be another process...Just having an educated guess here...

Fixed-bridge with neck-thru? Another guess, but I doubt it very much. Steve's has owned (or had owned, dunno) at least one fixed-bridge Jem for about ten years (i think it's been shown on Vai.com too in his collection). A shot of it was published in a British magazine almost a decade ago. While fixed-bridge with maple neck from memory.

A fixed-bridge (but otherwise typical) Jem model makes a lot of sense right now. Ibanez axed a MIJ RG421 a couple of years ago, and guys like me won't touch Korean models (RG321). Importantly, the PG301 was released throughout the world this year, not just Japan or the US. Sorry Paul Gilbert fanatics, but Steve Vai's name will shift more units (of fixed-bridge models) than Paul could. The only other option is drool over the fixed-bridge Prestige models shown on Ibanez's Japan market site and hope these beauties are released elsewhere.

Those of us involved in the interview were (and are) quite concerned about letting the cat out of the bag over these models, making Ibanez pissed and risking two potentially beaut model get scrap prior to release. I even spoke with Jemsite asking if, to their knowledge, there was a history of model/specs/colours being axed because details had surfaced early. But consider this. Steve's interview was conducted over the phone, was recorded (still got the transcription tape, as is common practice in publishing), and Steve was fully aware that the information in the interview would appear for a cover story for Australian Guitar. This new model info didn't accidentally slip out during candid backstage chatter. It was response to striaght up questioning. With that said, Steve does seem very candid and...how should put this...not too concerned about towing any sort of corporate PR line.
My point? I hope as much as anyone that Ibanez isn't too pissed off that Steve spill some beans.

Petie, all I gotta say is "Phew!". Glad Steve someone else the same info during his stay in Oz.
Steve actually discussed Bad Horsie and fixed bridge Jem in two seperated instances, almost unrelated: Bad Horsie production model was releaved when he was asked specifics about his touring axes, and the fixed-bridge Jem was revealed when specifically asked about his role in Jem development and if there was anything cool on the horizon.
He did mention that "they're working on it now". Does anyone else know the production cycle of Ibanez signture models and can guess a release date? (I hope it's not like cars, that're developed years ahead of intended release dates)

Will 'mirror Jem' be called Bad Horsie? Not sure. I'll check the full transcription again tomorrow to confirm if Steve actually called it Bad Horsie or not. Who owns rights to the name? Steve? Morley (wah pedal)?

Steve has 'spilled the beans' on several occasion, and some got turned over for multiple of reasons. Anything can happen until it's either officially announced @ vai.com or Ibanez.com (or when the axes appear in NAMM).
(and I'm sure that even then if something got up, it can be hold or even scrapped).

It looks promising, though, from what I read here.

BTW, there is a chrome like bad horsie knock off on Evilbay right now.
