Personally I can't imagine Steve spilling the beans with out a "ok" of some sort from Ibanez. After all it's his signature model, but Ibanez still has some say. I'm sure it's part of a "grab interest campaign". He made mention of it in the Live at Astoria commentary ( I think ). It will be interesting to see how this all unravels.

Food for thought (and hope).

If I was Ibanez product planner (or whatever) I'd see the obvious.
Vai plays white Jems. Vai's seen with white Jems. White Jems outsell other designs/colours by what seems a long mark. White Jems hold their resale value. White Jems are rule...because he plays 'em (and not even models of an recent vintage either...)

On the other hand, Florals, BSBs, texture finishes, colours, etc, come and go in cycles. And, well, Vai doesn't play these model on tour with any reasonable longevity or frequency.

What other guitar has Vai been playing, tour in and tour out, for years now? A specific guitar for Bad Horsie, now an iconic live chestnut.

A Bad Horsie model does seem logic, i think, at an Ibanez 'product planning' and 'selling units' level, it would seem, over many other Jem version to make it into production.

Just a thought...

The fact that Vai "spilled the beans" is probably what Ibanez really needs right now if they are going to continue to alienate potential buyers with price increases. If someone's been Jonesing to by a JEM and there's a new and possibly fresher design due out - that gives people time to budget and save for it. In theory, they'll (Ibanez) be more likely to see more sales upon introduction rather than catching everyone by surprise.

The one certainty in this business is that the artist will always be the main source of information on new releases

Fixed-bridge with neck-thru? Another guess, but I doubt it very much.
Well, i didnt say I expected to be a necktrhough (in fact Im sure it will be a bolt on), I said that the only way I would be interested in one is if it is released as a neckthrough But, to be honest, if it is a bolt on but has an awesome finish or some other innovative features, i might get it anyway

Why is that so? Says who? Dont you think that has to do with personal tastes mostly?

I can say, with out a doubt, that a mahogany fixed bridge neckthrough has much more sustain and better bass frecuencies than a bolt on. Plus you have better acces to the upper frets.

Wich are the advantages of the bolt on exactly? I own 7 bolt on guitars and only 3 neckthough. So I m not biased at all.

I wont say that a neckthrough is a better guitar than a set neck or a bolt on, but I can point out certain advantages of the neckthrough.

Wich one is better? it depends on other factors, personal tastes, etc, etc.

Neck thru/set neck - more bottom end response, improved sustain

Bolt ons - More and richer harmonic response, more overtones, etc.

So you cant really say one is better than the other. Just different.

One has certain advantages over the other.

Personally I would trade more harmonic response for more sustain and more bottom end. But thats a personal taste, and thats what I mean.

Tbh i'd much rather prefer the 'Bad Horsie' Jem to be a natural finish(white pickups!), as was the original Bad Horsie. No doubt though, we all know this mirrored Horsie will look awesome

I really don't think a Fixed-bridge Jem will do *amazingly great*,i think it'll sell, Heck if i had the money i'd buy one without a doubt (I'm 16) but for people who are fans of the music and of the classic Jem features i think they'd much rather stick to a model with a floating trem. I mean i can't really think of that many pieces Vai has written that could actually be performed properly on a Fixed bridge. Whether this has anything to do with it or not i still don't think that it'll be a smashing success. I mean i can't really remember the Champagne gold js1000 being as successful as the rest of the Jsline.

That being said, the more jems the better

I'll be waiting around for the 7-string model Steve comes up with. A fixed bridge with a monkey grip? I can only hope.
